**Job Description**:
Reporting to the Manager of Community and Student Affairs, the incumbent provides spiritual and cultural support to Indigenous students at the Pembroke Campus while also assisting and participating in Indigenous learning opportunities on campus for students and employees. The Kokum meets one-on-one and in group settings with Indigenous students providing coaching and cultural support, while acting as a liaison with other Indigenous leaders including Elders and Indigenous Friendship centres within the great college and community. The work includes helping to plan, deliver and advise on Indigenous programming such as National Truth and Reconciliation Day, New Moon celebrations and National Indigenous Peoples Day. As required, the Kokum provides support to student led Indigenous clubs and guidance to the campus equity, diversity and inclusion committee.
Required Qualifications:
- Two (2) year college diploma in Indigenous Studies, Cultural Studies, Social Services-with a focus on Indigenous studies, or equivalent education with a sound knowledge of Indigenous history and culture- Indigenous Studies, Cultural Studies, Social Services-with a focus on Indigenous studies, or equivalent education with a sound knowledge of Indigenous history and culture or;- Business, Business Administration, Office Administrative-Executive, Social Sciences, Adult learning or Education or other related field;- 3 years experience working within an Indigenous support services role, preferably within a post-secondary institution;- Culturally aware, specifically within Indigenous communities;- Understanding of Indigenous protocols, including traditional teachings and respect for Elders;- Computer skills with experience developing presentations;- Facilitation and public speaking skills;- Experience working in a confidential work environment;- Strong organizational skills;- Ability to work independently and within a team setting;- A valid Ontario Class G driver’s license would be an asset.
