**About Us**:
The Nova Scotia Securities Commission (the Commission) is an independent, quasi judicial tribunal created by the Securities Act. The Commission’s mandate is to protect investors and, to the extent not inconsistent with an adequate level of investor protection, to foster the process of capital formation in Nova Scotia.
Our goal is to regulate, educate, investigate, and enforce to ensure compliance with Nova Scotia securities laws.
**About Our Opportunity**:
The Deputy Director, Registration and Compliance (Deputy Director) reports to the Director of Policy and Market Regulation regarding registration and compliance matters and is accountable for providing the front line of investor protection in Nova Scotia by overseeing the registration and compliance programs for the Nova Scotia Securities Commission (the Commission)
**Duties**:
As the Deputy Director, you will
- develop, manage and administer programs for the registration and compliance functions of the Commission, including ensuring that staff is trained and competent in conducting examinations of securities market participants;
- ensure all firms and individuals that are registered under the _Securities Act _are suitable for registration
- provide leadership and direction to team members to maintain a high level of service;
- participate on national committees created to maintain and update securities regulations related to registration and compliance matters;
- participate in special projects to address emerging issues and trends that affect investors in Nova Scotia from a registration and compliance perspective; and
- provide information and recommendations to the Commission regarding policy initiatives.
The Deputy Director must also comply with the NSSC’s Conflict of Interest Rules.
**Qualifications and Experience**:
A university degree in business, finance, accounting, law or a related discipline with a minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in compliance and regulatory supervision of market participants is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The position requires an aptitude to deal with complex issues, strong analytical skills, tact and diplomacy, capacity for decisive action, and the ability to influence.
Preference will be given to those with a strong working knowledge of securities legislation and applicable securities related courses (i.e. Canadian Securities Course, Branch Managers Course, Chief Compliance Officers Course). An accounting designation or experience in conducting audits is an asset.
The Deputy Director must also comply with the Commission’s Conflict of Interest Rules.
