**About Us**:
The Western English Language Centre (WELC) provides programs for international students in order to prepare them for success in their undergraduate or graduate studies at Western and its affiliate colleges. Through both language and socio-cultural instruction, the Centre ensures a superior learning experience, from recruitment to graduation, for international students within a westernized education system. Recruiting from a variety of international markets, the Centre strives to be a key contributor to Western’s internationalization initiatives.

**Responsibilities**:

- The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Instructor works with international students enrolled in WELC programs on Western’s main campus and affiliate campuses. Instructors teach students while delivering program content, create lesson plans and prepare teaching materials, administer and mark tests and other assessments to evaluate and report on students’ progress; and contribute to the Centre’s program and curriculum development. In doing so, Instructors ensure that students are progressing through WELC programs to meet the requirements of conditional offers as well as are supporting and preparing students to be successful in university studies. The instructor liases with academic partners to provide academic simulation opportunities as well as creates and maintains online course materials using Western’s learning management system - OWL.**Qualifications**:
**Education**:
- Undergraduate Degree in a related discipline
- Completed or in progress of completing a Master’s Degree in Professional Education, Linguistics, Curriculum Studies or a related field

**Experience**:
- 3 years’ + Canadian or International ESL/EAP teaching experience
- Digital literacy experience and education
- Experience setting up courses in OWL (Western’s Learning Management System)
- TESL Canada approved TESL certificate (or equivalent) is an asset

Skills, Abilities & Expertise:
- Strong understanding of adult learning and ESL/EAP learning principles and methodology
- Familiarity with learning evaluation methods
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
- Familiarity with instructional design methods to deliver instructional programs and courses
- Strong oral and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated proficiency in academic English communication
- Communication skills to describe concepts effectively to both novice and sophisticated users
- Ability to summarize information and disseminate to others effectively in a timely manner
- Ability to perceive and understand the emotions of others, and interact with them appropriately based on those emotions
- Ability to provide guidance, support and feedback in a way that is positively received
- Organizational and multi-tasking skills to prioritize and consistently produce high-quality work
- Demonstrated ability to coach and support adult learners, and to enable individuals to learn
- Consistently demonstrates initiative in a team environment
