**Opportunity**
The Vancouver Youth Transitional Housing worker position will help youth work on life skills and individualized goals, provide back
- up support to a team of Transitional Housing support workers, and support participants in maintaining their present housing in a 2-year transitional housing program and transitioning into long term housing. The position involves case management of youth participants in the program and connecting youth to community support. The successful applicant will have a background in the social service sector, nonviolent crisis intervention and working collaboratively with other agency staff and programs, and with partner organisations.
This position requires a sound understanding of supported housing, integrative case management, harm reduction and overdose response.
**Responsibilities**
- The youth transitional housing support worker will provide one-on-one support to young people ages 16 through 24.
- The youth housing support worker will case manage youth to work on life skills and individualized goals, work with a team of other housing staff to support participants in maintaining housing and transitioning into long term sustainable housing. The position involves coordinating with other case management staff and community support. The successful applicant will have a background in the social service sector, nonviolent crisis intervention and experience consulting with agency professionals.
- Administrative tasks include maintaining daily case notes, working on goals, doing life area assessments, developing a move out plan to long term housing, connecting youth to support services that will support attachments to long term housing.
- The Transitional housing worker will participate in program participant intakes, assessments, setting up a regular schedule of meetings, helping youth navigate government support systems, educate youth about dealing with landlords, and work with the program supervisor and manager to identify risks to success in the program.
- Assist with housing searches and coaching participants on how to do a housing search.
**Qualifications**
**Academic and Job Experience Required**:
- BSW. or a degree in a related field or diploma plus two (2) years related experience.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Demonstrated experience working with at-risk, multi-barriered, youth ages 16-24 and understanding their unique needs.
- Case management experience
**Basic Requirements**:
- Criminal Records Check including the vulnerable sector.
- Current Standard First Aid certificate.
- Valid BC Driver’s license and clean drivers abstract.
- MANDT or NVCI certification
**Additional Assets**:
- Experience working with multi-barriered homeless youth from diverse backgrounds.
- Experience working with youth in a residential setting is an asset.
- Experience working with youth dealing with mental health and substance use challenges.
- Sound judgement and effective people skills.
- Clear and concise communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong understanding of non-binary gender representations, expressions, and identities
- Strong understanding of Indigenous culture and impacts of colonialism, racism, and oppression.
- Strong understanding of foster care and other child welfare systems
- Certificate of completion for nonviolent crisis intervention or similar program
- Valid driver’s license and use of own vehicle will be an asset.
- Physically able to complete housing related tasks such as cleaning, occasional maintenance and cleaning duties and help youth moving in/out of site (lift 30lbs)
