Ottawa, Canada Strawberry Blonde Bakery Full time

We are looking for a talented, artistic and creative person to join our specialty department. This is a 15 month contract working out of our Kanata Location ( 767 Silver Seven Rd.)

If you have the skills and passion for decorating cakes, cookies and chocolate work this position is for you.
- **Schedule**:_
- Please Note: as Cake Decorating & Specialty Products Assistant, you may be required to work on your regularly scheduled days off should a specialty cake/product need to be produced on one of those days. Since these orders are generally known well in advance, your schedule should be adjusted accordingly so as to ensure no overtime hours are done._

**Principal Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Filling customer special orders, including but not limited to birthday cakes, wedding cakes, shaped cakes, decorative sugar cookies, chocolate work etc.
- Produce chocolate, confections, sugar cookies for all locations of Strawberry Blonde Bakery to sell
- Produce fondant sculptures and toppers to accompany orders for all locations of Strawberry Blonde Bakery
- Assist in the development of new ideas, products and menu items within the specialty and cake categories (e.g. Fudge, candies, etc.) to keep growing what Strawberry Blonde Bakery can offer.

**Customer Service**
- Provide friendly, courteous, and prompt customer service from start to finish (ie always

remember it’s a celebration/special event)
- Must have a positive attitude and always try to figure out a way to say yes to as many special order requests as possible. If/when the request is not possible, always offer an alternative to the customer.
- Conduct wedding consultations, and working alongside the Specialty Products Manager and customer to make the customer’s vision of cake/cookie a reality
- Assist with wedding cake deliveries and set up as needed
- Assist in maintaining a portfolio of work for customers to see (website and in person)
- Demos/tradeshows if and as needed
- Help other areas in the bakery when needed covering our Front of house or help baking

**Technical Skills**
- Able to cut, fill, and mask cakes (including shaped cakes)
- Able to stack multi-tiered cakes and decorate all tiers in a stable and coherent design
- Work with fondant (experience with shaping, molding and sheeting fondant is required)
- Produce all decorative elements for decorative cupcakes and cookies (including sculpted figurines, cut outs and shapes using fondant, buttercream piped flowers, etc.)
- Understanding of chocolate tempering process, working with chocolate molds, flavoring chocolate, creating fillings, etc.
- Able to answer customer questions about our products in person and over the phone
- Ability to manage time and complete cakes and other products in allotted time frame
- Understand how to work with gluten-free, vegan, kosher, and nut free product(s) with an excellent knowledge of these types of diets
- Maintain excellent levels of cleanliness and food safety in the bakery

**Communication & Team Leadership**

*Excellent communication skills and a great attention to detail are a requirement to ensure customers get what they are looking for
- Communicate effectively with all members of staff (managers, bakers, FOH staff, etc.) to ensure cake orders are baked, stored, and provided/handed to customers properly
- Ensure visual and flavour/bake quality of special orders (cakes, sugar cookies, etc.) are held to bakery standards

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 15 months

**Salary**: $18.00-$20.00 per hour
