Read-A-Lot Summer Literacy

Mentor Instructor

8 hours/day, 40 hours per week - July 8 - July 26, 2024

(plus 2 Mandatory Training Days - July 3 and 4)

$30.00/hour

Position Summary

Each summer, the Limestone District School Board offers a three week summer literacy program for students in Grades SK to 5. Students have an opportunity to further develop their literacy skills in a classroom setting under the direction of an instructor and with the support of a tutor. The 2024 Read-A-Lot Summer Literacy Program will be offered July 8 to 26, 2024. Mandatory training will take place July 3 and 4, 2024.

Duties include:
Supporting instructors with assessing students’ literacy skills at the beginning and end of the program

Analyzing data with classroom instructor to create groups to close gaps

Co-planning and co-teaching with classroom instructors and tutors

Supervising students during program hours

Collaborating regularly with the team, including site manager, instructors, tutors and parents

Supporting site manager with daily duties

Assisting with the set-up and take-down of classrooms at school sites

Participating in all training sessions

Knowledge and Experience

We are looking for applicants who:
Have a Bachelor of Education Degree

Have a deep knowledge of structured literacy and the science of reading

Use data to inform their literacy instruction

Have experience working with students in small groups to close gaps in literacy

Show initiative, excellent organizational, leadership and interpersonal skills

Can provide their own transportation to assigned school (mileage not covered by LDSB)
