Kingston, Canada Marine Museum of the Great Lakes at Kingston Full time

The Marine Museum of the Great Lakes at Kingston seeks an **Interpreter** with excellent communication, customer service and project planning skills to assist Museum staff with public program and tour delivery, and program development throughout the busy summer season. The Interpreter will be exposed to a variety of activities that keep a museum working in both “front of the house” and “back of the house” operations. This position is a great opportunity to work in a friendly, creative and collaborative work environment while developing project planning, communications and program development skills. The Museum’s mission is to inspire an enduring connection to the maritime heritage of Kingston and the Great Lakes. This is a full-time summer position at $20/hour starting Monday May 1st, 2023.

**Key areas of responsibility**:

- Assist the Programs and Communications Manager in the development of new on-the-water heritage, nature and environmental public programs.
- Deliver on-the-water tours in a canoe to community groups and public; including youth and adults.
- Greet visitors to the Museum, give interpretive tours of the National Historic Site to enhance visitor experience, track visitor feedback and attendance, and enforce any Covid-19 protocols that may be required to maintain a safe environment
- Other responsibilities may include assisting with program delivery and events.

**Qualifications**:
**Preferred Qualifications and Skills**:

- Must be eligible for funding under the terms of Young Canada Works.
- Individuals who identify as a First Nation, Inuit or Métis are encouraged to apply.
- Must have excellent customer service and communication skills with youth and adults.
- Must have education or experience in developing and delivering programs in environmental science or social studies. Knowledge of Indigenous history and culture (including two-eyed seeing) is an asset.
- Paddle Canada Certified Waterfront Canoe Instructor or equivalent - or ability and willingness to complete certification.
- First Aid, Boat Safety and/or Bronze Medallion/Cross certifications are an asset.
- Experience delivering on-the water programs is an asset.
- Computer literate in Microsoft Excel and Word; graphic design experience is an asset.
- Leadership experience with projects and/or programs with demonstrated ability to take initiative.
- Ability to work independently or with a small team in a public environment.
- Must be willing to work weekends throughout the summer, including Labour Day weekend.
- Must have driver’s license.
- Bilingual (French/English) is an asset.

**Additional Requirements**: Waterfront Canoe Certification or willingness/ability to achieve certification
