**About this Opportunity**
In the midst of an exciting strategic transformation, the Director of Resource Development will play a critical role in aligning our fundraising and partnership strategies with our new strategic direction. This position offers the unique opportunity to contribute to a dynamic period of growth and change, driving the development and implementation of innovative resource development strategies to secure sustainable funding and build strategic partnerships.
This position requires innovative thinking and creativity, as well as tactical and strategic capabilities, to present and package our programme strategies in ways that attract the right donor support and grow our portfolio. The focus of this role is to lead and manage the business development process; from the identification of opportunities and the development, consolidation and stewarding of donor relationships to leading the design and writing of concept notes and proposals.
**Areas of Responsibility**
- **Strategic Fundraising**: Develop and implement comprehensive resource development strategies to secure institutional funding, focusing on government and multilateral aid agencies.
- **Relationship Building**: Forge and manage strategic relationships with key donors, enhancing CFTC’s network and positioning the organization as a preferred partner.
- **Market Intelligence**: Conduct in-depth market research to identify funding opportunities and trends, providing actionable insights to shape CFTC’s fundraising strategies.
- **Proposal Leadership**: Lead the development of compelling proposals and concepts, coordinating closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure alignment with donor requirements and CFTC’s strategic goals.
- **Financial Management**: Oversee the development and maintenance of budgets, ensuring financial accountability and reporting across resource development initiatives.
- **Visibility and Representation**: Act as a key representative of CFTC at events and forums, expanding the organization’s visibility and fostering relationships with government agencies and aid organizations.
- **Other duties as assigned.**
**Qualifications & Competencies**:
- **Educational Background**: Possession of a College Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- **Professional Experience**: A minimum of 8-10 years of on-the-job experience, including 4-6 years of senior-level experience in resource/business development, particularly with a focus on strategy development and engagement with government entities and international agencies.
- **Government Procurement Processes**: Comprehensive knowledge of Canadian federal and provincial government procurement processes, with a proven ability to navigate complex decision-making structures.
- **Funding Success**: Demonstrated success in securing funding and driving revenue growth within the public sector and international aid landscape, including securing multi-year institutional grants over $5M, particularly with Global Affairs Canada (GAC).
- **Sector Expertise**: Direct experience in food systems, food security/nutrition, and livelihoods, showcasing a strong capacity for project conceptualization, design, and writing.
- **Compliance and Reporting**: Solid understanding of international development funding compliance frameworks, coupled with superior research, business writing, and financial reporting skills, particularly proficient in Excel.
- **Relationship Building**: Exceptional skills in building and managing relationships and networks, both internally and externally, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate across functional teams to develop and deliver tailored proposals.
- **Strategic and Communication Skills**: Outstanding strategic thinking, communication, negotiation, and presentation abilities, capable of articulating complex solutions to a diverse audience.
- **Drive and Alignment**: A proactive, results-oriented mindset, committed to meeting and exceeding revenue targets, and strongly aligned with the vision, mission, and values of Canadian Feed the Children.
- **Leadership**: Proven experience in mentoring and developing team members, fostering an environment of learning and growth.
**Other Requirements**:
- **Flexibility**: Ability to work from home and in an office setting as needed, primarily working at a desk on a computer.
- **Travel**: Willingness to travel nationally and/or internationally up to 25% of the time, sometimes for extended assignments. A valid passport is required.
- **Work Eligibility**: Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
- **Language Skills**: French or Spanish language proficiency (oral and written) would be considered an asset.
