Applications are invited for the position of Indigenous Culture & Events Coordinator (CEC) in the Student Services Division, located at the Daniel J. Patterson Campus. The starting hourly rate is $35.06 /hr (Pay Band H- $35.06/hr to $40.71/hr) for a 35 hour work week. Additional hours may be required as necessary.

**Responsibilities include, but are not limited to**:

- Coordinate a variety of cultural events and ceremonies which involves decision making, input on external resources, managing event processes, coordinating community meetings, preparing, and monitoring and distributing event budgets
- Responsible for all communications, marketing, promotion, and networking in support of special events and assists with development of new opportunities to build community awareness
- Provide volunteer coordination and recognition for cultural events
- Maintain inventories of supplies, equipment and materials for cultural programming and gifting
- Build and maintain relationships with Indigenous community partners, organizations, and Elders to support event planning and execution
- Maintain knowledge of best practices in Indigenous event planning, education, and community engagement, and participate in relevant professional development opportunities
- Facilitate sessions with Elders and cultural advisors
- Maintain a calendar of seasonal events & EDI Indigenous Lead events
- Work closely with Elders and traditional knowledge keepers to develop appropriate land-based programming
- Prepare grounds for ceremony (sweats, smudging, talking circles, etc.) under the advisement of a knowledge keeper and in alignment with IEMC and Niagara College policies and procedures. Promote cultural awareness, cultural competence, and cultural safety within the Indigenous Centre
- Ensure that planning and implementation of all programs are culturally relevant, safe, and appropriate
- Ensure that the planning is flexible enough to allow for innovation in the implementation of cultural diversity, values, and beliefs
- Provide education for respecting the lands and gardens
- Be a steward of the Indigenous gardens by ensuring a clean and safe space
- Plant and harvest medicines in both Indigenous gardens
- Create interactive opportunities to enhance students’ relationship with the land

**Qualifications**:

- 3 year diploma or degree in Recreation and Leisure, Business Administration, Hospitality & Tourism, Public Relations, Event Management, Humanities or Social Studies or related field of study
- A minimum of three years of demonstrated experience in organizing and overseeing events, large scale student engagement and cultural awareness activities.
- Experience in a post‑secondary education institution or related industry, with proven experience in student services and working with Indigenous communities and Indigenous service organizations.
- The incumbent must be of Indigenous heritage (i.e. Turtle Island-First Nations Status and non-Status, Métis or Inuit) and have strong ties to the Indigenous community
- Requires experience delivering culturally appropriate services and events to and with Indigenous clients with an Indigenous worldview.
- Proficient working knowledge in catering coordination and/or hospitality office administration, computer systems and support (MS Office, Eventmaster, Databases, Publishing, Accounting.)
- Experience in premier customer service delivery practices in a multi-level hospitality organization.
- The incumbent must be of Indigenous heritage (i.e. Turtle Island-First Nations Status and non-Status, Métis or Inuit) and have strong ties to the Indigenous community
