The City of Vancouver’s Legal Services Department has a vacancy for a Solicitor III (Development & Real Estate) to join its team.

**Specific Duties & Responsibilities**
Providing legal advice to City departments and related Boards and handling a broad range of matters, including:

- Ground leases, leases and license agreements and development agreements to increase the supply of affordable market and non-market housing and other City amenities
- Review of mortgage and finance-related documents
- Legal issues associated with the renter’s office, including advice on protection of tenant’s rights, tenant protection agreements and policies
- Major land development projects, where the City is acting in a regulatory capacity through the rezoning, subdivision and development permit processes and/or as property owner in the construction of buildings and infrastructure
- Complex air space subdivisions for mixed-use projects;
- Purchase and sale of City lands
- Legal issues associated with the City’s revenue generating mechanisms, such as development cost levies, community amenity contributions and real property taxation

**Qualifications**

Education and Experience:

- A Professional Law Degree and membership in the Law Society of BC
- A minimum 5 years’ current related experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the proven ability to manage conflict situations effectively
- Strong organizational skills, with a proven ability to meet deadlines in a multiple task environment
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- PC computer skills

Compensation includes a competitive annual salary (commensurate with years and relevancy of experience) and an excellent pension and benefits package.

The City’s COVID-19 vaccination policy is currently suspended and as a result, vaccination against COVID-19 is not required at this time. However, should circumstances change and the City deem it necessary to re-introduce such policy, you may be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 in order to be eligible to continue performing your duties.
