The City of Vancouver’s Legal Services Department has a temporary vacancy for a Solicitor (2 year term).

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

Provide legal advice to a variety of City departments, including the FIFA Secretariat, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Finance, and Arts, Culture, and Community Services Practice in a number of different areas of law and on a variety of projects, including: FIFA World Cup 2026, Public procurement of goods and services, Construction, Technology Solutions, Infrastructure Projects, Funding and Grant Agreements. Corporate Governance Municipal Law, and Inter-Governmental Agreements and Relations

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Professional Law Degree and membership (in good standing) with the Law Society of B.C At least five years of experience as a lawyer, practicing as a solicitor in a number of areas of law described above

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the proven ability to manage conflict situations effectively Strong organizational skills, with a proven ability to meet deadlines in a multiple task environment Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships Demonstrated ability to effectively leverage law office technology to increase productivity

Where operationally appropriate and subject to change, the City of Vancouver has a Flexible Work Program. This program allows staff to work remotely 1 – 3 days a week from locations that are a daily commutable distance from their work at a City worksite. At this time this position is eligible to be part of the Flexible Work Program.
