**Job Summary**
Working under the general direction of the Senior RHSW, the Resolution Health Support Worker (RHSW) provides services and support to Indian Residential School Claimants who are involved in the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) or litigation process. The RHSW provides for the broad needs of a caseload of individuals through a process of direct contact, situational evaluations and needs assessments, and the formulation of remedial strategies to meet the overall constituent needs in an effective and respectful manner, and the objective monitoring of the overall effectiveness of these activities. The (RHSW) shall take a leadership role in initiating and facilitating community outreach designed to increase awareness of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Program within the Aboriginal Community. The RHSW shall ensure that all activities are undertaken in a manner that is consistent with, and complementary to, the Vision Statement, the Principles and Values and the policies and procedures of the Aboriginal Health & Wellness Centre.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
- On a continuous basis, ensure that the programs, activities and achievements of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Program (ADR) remain consistent with, and complementary to, the established goals, objectives and standards of the Program.
- Administer initial assessment instruments and techniques to all prospective participants; for the purpose of determine suitability for program participation and needs identification for further interaction and support.
- The RHSW works in collaboration with Health Canada, First Nations and Inuit Health Branch to provide the mental health and emotional support to meet the needs of the eligible ADR claimants.
- Identify claimant support needs (therapeutic and traditional healing), recommend appropriate support responses by referring IRS claimants to Health Canada regional staff for a determination of their eligibility to qualify for professional counseling services (i.e. approved HC mental health providers or recognized traditional Elders),
- Raise awareness and informal claimant about previously established community based healing and wellness programming (NNADAP, Aboriginal Healing Foundation projects, treatment centers, etc.),
- Ensure effective and efficient culturally appropriate services: coordinate seamless and integrated support services to claimants, immediate family members involved in the ADR process or litigation events when and where required paying particular attention to those individuals in crisis,
- Provide emotional support services to claimant pre, during and post resolution processes: develop an after-hours response strategy and on-call resources such as therapists, crisis line, traditional Elders: assist in the development of follow-up services and after-care plans
- Build networks and relationships with Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal groups at the community level while promoting awareness of the National Resolution Framework and IRS issues
- Build relationships with other Resolution Health Support Workers (RHSW) nationally to develop a forum for discussion of best practices and sharing of approaches and experiences,
- Monitor ongoing contact and interaction of assigned constituents on a regular basis for the purpose of conducting detailed case reviews including assessing actions or activities initiated by the RHSW, monitoring progress of action plans, and evaluating both interim and long-term strategies and support for the ADR claimants
- Ensure that members of the urban Aboriginal community are aware of, and have ready access to, the services of the Aboriginal Health & Wellness Centre, community based groups and agencies, and other Aboriginal agencies in order to meet the needs of constituents in a structured, comprehensive manner,
- Maintain a thorough and accurate record of all constituent activities and interactions, case notes, resource reviews and service research, and relevant activity statistics for peer review and historic purposes,
- As the principal interface with constituents and external agencies, interact with other community resources in order to promote awareness of the services offered by both the Aboriginal Health & Wellness Centre and other agencies, the means by which those services can be effectively accessed, and methods of effectively integrating those services / resources with those currently provided under the Alternative Dispute Resolution Program
- Prepare and submit monthly program updates and assessments, Health Canada input and reports and other information and statistics that may be required to evaluate the activities of the ADR Program.
