Summary*
Oahas operates based on the principles of Greater Involvement of People living with HIV/AIDS (GIPA), Meaningful Engagement of People living with HIV/AIDS (MEPA), Indigenous harm reduction, and respect for our cultural knowledges and teachings. These foundational principles guide all aspects of our relationships and work. Our mission is to support healthy, thriving Indigenous communities through ending the transmission of HIV and other STBBIs in our communities.

Community Prevention Workers provide culturally appropriate HIV/AIDS and HCV education, one-to-one service navigation support, access to HIV and HCV prevention and testing, and facilitate groups for the urban Indigenous community members. This position is located in **Sudbury, Ontario**, reports to the Team Lead, Lisa Toner, with the following areas of responsibilities**:Harm Reduction, Community and Education Services; Testing, Intervention and Treatment Services; Administration - with particular emphasis on one-on-one and group support for members.**

**Key Responsibilities**

Harm Reduction, Community and Education Services*
- Participate in community events and gatherings and set-up displays and information booths.
- Facilitate groups related to education, life skills, culture and wellness for members.
- Advocate through presentations, sessions, workshops and training to non-Indigenous service providers and institutions to increase better quality of care for Indigenous service users accessing mainstream and Indigenous specific services.
- Collaborate locally and regionally and create partnerships to improve services and access to care for Indigenous peoples
- Engage peers and volunteers with lived experience to work and assist in creating harm reduction kits, provide training to peers and work together to distribute harm reduction supplies to community members in various communities and areas.

**Testing, Intervention and Treatment Services**
- Provide supportive traditional counselling, pre and post-test counselling and crisis intervention
- Provide support to IPHA community through support groups and various program activities
- Develop and maintain strategic partnerships to ensure a continuum of care for Oahas members.
- Assess community member needs in the areas of harm reduction, health care, housing, income, social support, legal, substance-use supports, and provide appropriate referrals.
- Assist with medical adherence and improvement of quality of life of IPHAs
- Provide one-to-one service navigation as it relates to accessing care, treatment and well-being supports.

**Administration**
- Complete OCASE, OCHART and NEO database entries on a weekly basis.
- Ongoing program reporting, data collection, file maintenance and records management.
- Ongoing compliance with Oahas policies and procedures is a requirement for this job.
- May be required to assist with projects and other agency initiatives.

**Additional Expectations**
- Flexibility with schedule and ability to work evenings and weekends on occasion.
- May be required to assist with projects and other agency initiatives
- Share in the responsibility and care for Oahas traditional medicines and bundle items as per protocol.

**Qualifications**
- Competency and a good understanding of Indigenous culture and ways, teachings and history.
- Experience the delivery of prevention, harm reduction, outreach, education, community-based, social services, health or cultural services.
- Passion for nurturing culturally-appropriate, community participation and modelling effective leadership within the Indigenous communities.
- Prefer a diploma or degree in a relevant field and/or a combination of related experience.
- Lived Experience; Experience working with people who use drugs and other substances
- Ability to build trust, strengthen communication, establish partnerships within communities.
- Ability to speak openly and freely about substance use, sexuality in a sex-positive, non-judgmental manner with service users and harm reduction workers (peers)
- Excellent personal and professional boundaries.
- Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy and respect when communicating with the Indigenous communities, stakeholders, other agencies and external contacts.
- Strong planning, organizational and team skills; ability to work in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work outside regular working hours as required, travel throughout a region will be required which may include evening and weekends.
- Valid Ontario G driver’s license is an asset
- Ability to speak an Indigenous language is an asset.

**Salary**: $28.47 per hour
