**The Opportunity**:
Reporting to the Manager of Business Development, Clinical Nutrition, and Food Services, the Journeyman Cook prepares food for patients, families, visitors, and staff, and catering. Duties included, but are not limited to;
- Kitchen Duties:
- Performs batch cooking and cooking for the cafeteria, catering, and patient food service (IWK main campus and offsite mental health locations).
- Clean, peel, slice, and trim food items using manual and electronic appliances.
- Measure ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking according to standardized recipes.
- Prepares food following safe food handling practices.
- Delivers food to the cafeteria and replenishes during meal periods as necessary.
- Assists with pre-preparation and storage of food as required.
- Planning and Administrative Tasks:
- Plans workload to incorporate batch cooking techniques.
- Records quantities of food prepared and available for service prior to meal periods.
- Records overproduced food remaining following meal service.
- Reviews food and equipment needs with the Computer and Production Coordinator.
- Participates in departmental quality assurance program.
- Participates in the training of new staff and interns.
- Records food temperatures as required.
- Collaborates with Computer and Production Coordinator with menu planning.
- Safety:
- Assist in proper storage of food items.
- Follow safe food handling practices.
- Assist in maintaining the work area and equipment in a clean and sanitary manner.
- Identify and report problems related to food preparation, equipment, sanitation, and safety hazards to the supervisor.

**Hours of Work**:
7AM-3PM, 1030-530PM, OTHER SHIFTS AS REQUIRED

**Your Qualifications**:

- Minimum grade 12 or equivalent preparation to secondary school graduation (GED)
- Journeyman certification (Red Seal)
- Food Handlers Course and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) training required
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Strong English verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team.
- Ability to build and maintain client satisfaction while offering services.
- Ability to multitask.
- Ability to attend to details and pursue quality in accomplishing tasks.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to recognize and appropriately react to potential dangers.
- Ability to follow instructions and work processes.
- Competencies in other languages are an asset.
