Hope House is a new 24/7 supportive housing for moms and their infants. Hope House is located in Summerside and houses 5 moms and 5 infants.

The Support Worker reports and carries out her duties under the authority of the Residential Manager and the Executive Director.

The Support Worker is responsible for the implementation of programming and structure for women who reside within Hope House as needed during their on-call shifts.

Clients are pregnant and/or parenting and may have complex lives that require them to focus on personal and parenting skills. The Support Worker will need to be able to work with complex individuals, using strength based interventions and developing positive professional relationships with the clients.

This role is a casual position, filling in when full-time staff are unavailable to work their shifts. Shifts are most often 24 hours from 8am-8pm with a sleeping component at night. Shifts will vary and will be all days of the week including weekends.

**Qualifications**:

- College or University diploma, or equivalent experience (3 years) in working in the human services sector such as social work, addictions, mental health services, youth worker or human services.
- Previous training in CPR/First Aid, NVCI, ASIST preferred.
- Experience working with at risk individuals is an asset.
- Experience working in a secure residential facility an asset.
- The ability to work with clients to increase their personal assets, with an understanding of the mother/child dyad and how this impacts the infant’s mental health.
- Being able to work and communicate with the Hope House team and community partners is critical.
- Must be able to perform physical tasks such as cleaning, holding infants and children, etc. to assist clients in parenting and life-skills.

**RESPONSIBILITIES AND PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES**:
All work at Hope House requires staff to have read and understood the relevant policies and procedures. The following list is not comprehensive. Tasks or responsibilities may be added as needed to secure or enhance the program at the residence.
- Responsible for ensuring the safety and welfare of mothers, infants, and children during shifts.
- Shall supervise and assist clients in following the program structure (parenting programs, activities, community resources, etc)
- Ensure a high level of service is provided to clients by identifying client’s needs and strengths
- Attend client Signs of Safety and other relevant meetings as needed, speaking to the clients strengths, needs, and goal areas.
- Shall complete all documentation before leaving the shift.
- Shall attend shift changes at the beginning and end of each shift and ensure that when leaving the shift that the next staff has the required information.
- Shall record any serious occurrences during the shift and report it to the Manager.
- Shall be aware of emergency policies and procedures and act accordingly.
- Shall immediately report any concerns to the Manager or on-call Staff.
- Ensure that Hope House remains clean, pleasant and a positive environment and ensure that the house is in good order at the end of each shift.
- Report any repairs and/or Health and Safety concerns to the Residential Supervisor or Facility Manager and fill out the appropriate documentation.
- Shall do a security check each evening before shift ends and throughout the evening.
- Ensure that residents follow agency policy regarding property use.
- Ensure that “client only” areas be respected and that the staff office and meeting room areas be kept locked when unoccupied.
- Ensure the security of the home and confidentiality of files according to procedures.
- Supports the mission and objectives of Hope House and works with the staff team to achieve these goals.
- Understand Attachment Theory and Infant Mental health and is able to create an environment on shift that reflects this knowledge.
- Is able to share information about the programs and clients in a professional way during shift change, and in both internal and external meetings.
- Participates in training and education to stay abreast of best practices in our sector.
- Understands how difficult it is to parent and is able to be encouraging and helpful to clients.
- Understand best practice in infant/toddler care and be able to teach and support clients in caring for their children.
- Bring your own skills and personality to the agency and use them to enhance the Hope House environment.
