The Mission of The City of Calgary’s Resilience & Futures team is to continually improve our city’s resilience and create preferred and equitable futures for all Calgarians, to be catalysts for resilient thinking, decision-making and futures-readiness, and to activate opportunities to ensure our local government and communities can navigate uncertainty, complex changes, challenges and disruption.
As the Leader, Resilience & Futures, you will lead this newly established section within the Collaboration, Analytics & Innovation Business Unit. You will lead a team of resilience and futures experts who identify and respond to emerging needs, risks, shocks, and stressors, while building integral and strong relationships with internal and external partners, to support a more resilient Calgary. Primary duties include:
- Lead, coach, mentor and develop a team of resilience and futures experts, support project and opportunity development, prioritization, execution and reporting.
- Lead and direct work to develop the Resilience & Futures team’s services and offerings, including, but not limited to tools, processes and communication strategies
- Increase awareness (both internally & externally) of the Resilience & Futures team's services and how those services support The City of Calgary and the larger community.
- Build relationships with both internal and external interested parties that result in collaborations that build Calgary’s social and economic resilience.
- Identify and oversee the implementation of opportunities to advance the goals of the Resilience & Futures team.
- Establish an appropriate evaluation framework to measure successes, progress, and outcomes of the Resilience & Futures team’s initiatives.
- Provide general Resilience and Futures leadership and consultation for projects, policy and strategy development both within The City and in the larger community.

- A Degree (i.e. in Design, Planning, Business Administration, Economics, Social Sciences, Information and Communications, Political Science, Information Management or related) with a combination of at least 8 years applicable work experience and progressive leadership experience, working in highly complex organizations.
- Other relevant experience includes:
- Develop cross-corporate relationships to support systems’ perspectives.
- Develop strategies, work and resourcing plans and measures.
- Demonstrate experience communicating research and process results in a variety of formats and to a range of audiences in a way that is relevant, meaningful and accessible.
- Formal training in strategic foresight, future studies, design methods, evaluation, and/or research.
- Knowledge and experience with strategic foresight processes, principles, and methods such as horizon scanning, futures wheels and future scenario development.
- Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
- Successful applicants in the role will possess:
- The ability to direct work and work collaboratively with other levels of Leadership across the organization (and with external parties) to shared understanding around resilience and futures, build consensus and develop projects.
- Excellent communication skills for diverse audiences.
- Refined political acumen.
- A bias to action, growth mindset, and curiosity.
