The Homeless Shelter Student Workers will take part in many aspects of The Guesthouse Shelter, learning a wide variety of skills, techniques, and approaches for a career in the human services field.

The main tasks and responsibilities of the students will be to assist Guesthouse Shelter front-line staff in care and support of our clients who are experiencing homelessness and everything that either preceded their homelessness or was brought on by it. These include mental health and substance use issues, PTSD, monetary challenges, social isolation, discrimination, lack of support etc. the need for

Students will learn and/or have their skills enhanced by observing and utilizing best practice techniques and tools to help with client intakes, assessments, care plans, care plan evaluations, listening and counselling skills, program development; research, implementation, evaluation and enhancement, and working with our community partners on daily tasks, as well as interventions from the North Simcoe Situation Table. Homelessness Shelter Student Workers will learn about, and provide clients with information, guidance and advocacy to help develop community wrap-around care.

Students will also work on manual and digital data entry tools, such as HIFIS, for intakes, monitoring and reporting client progress, and communicating client information with community partners.

In addition, students may assist in other areas of The Guesthouse, specifically in the area of resource development. Tasks may include assisting with the creation, binding and circulation of promotional material, promoting events, and taking part in fundraising events.

**Job Type**: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 3 months

**Salary**: From $16.00 per hour

Schedule:

- 8 hour shift
- Day shift
- Evening shift

Supplemental pay types:

- Overtime pay

**Education**:

- Secondary School (preferred)
