**SUMMARY**:Leads and coordinates group sessions offering horticulture therapy, gardening education-based, hands-on workshops in a supportive and creative environment for people of all ages for our Community Connect Garden Programs. Reports to the Manager, Recreation & Program Administration

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
1. Leads the promotion, planning and implementation of the Community Connect Garden(s) for people of all ages based upon program requirements and designated time-period.

2. Plans and leads exercise/activity sessions in one or more assigned areas, educational classes, etc.

3. Sets up and monitors class equipment and ensures its return in serviceable condition.

4. Works alongside Manager, Recreation & Program Administration, Assistant Executive Director, Staff and Volunteers (watering, weeding, pruning, and other basic gardening tasks; perimeter check, development and design of the Community Connect Garden, site beautification, etc.)

5. Oversees the planting, maintenance, and harvesting of the garden(s).

6. Assists in volunteer engagement strategies and in the planning and development of the garden volunteer committee.

7. Delivery and preparation of the garden design and ground preparation plan, cultivation of medicinal plants, and maintenance.

8. Distributes handouts and/or class evaluations, if appropriate, and answers questions from participants after each session; assists in performing follow up and communication with participants, as required.

9. Takes photos and tracks progress of project; maintains attendance and participant files as appropriate.

10. The position will require both outdoor and indoor work. It will require the ability to lift 20-30 lbs as well as walk, kneel or squat, bend, and shovel.

11. Ensures that safety and injury prevention policies and procedures are adhered to by participants; reports accidents and prepares accident reports, as required.

12. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

**MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS**:

- Knowledge and experience in gardening, farming, agriculture, horticulture or a similar field.
- Recognized competency and training in field of instructional expertise/may require discipline-specific certification (horticulture).
- Well-organized, able to prioritize tasks, flexible to changing work schedules, and able to meet deadlines.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED**:

- Skill in the use of first aid procedures.
- Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork.
- Ability to participate in a team.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)
- Records maintenance skills.
- Passion and care for the environment
- Knowledge of education methods and techniques in area of specialty.
- Knowledge of Computer education principles and technology.
- Ability to read, understands, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
- Knowledge of the operation/maintenance of technology/equipment/facilities.
- Experience working with children, families, seniors and individuals from diverse background and related education.
- Proven ability to promote, plan, implement and maintain age-appropriate programming and behaviour-best suited to individual and group needs.
- Experience in working with students, volunteers and encouraging participant input.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

**CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**:

- First Aid and CPR Certification required
- Vulnerable Sector Screening - Police Reference Check if required

**Job Types**: Full-time, Fixed term contract

**Salary**: $25.29 per hour

**Education**:

- Bachelor's Degree (preferred)

**Experience**:
