**Position Description**:
The Research Ethics Coordinator facilitates the work of the Research Ethics Board (REB) ensuring the Board Members and Chairs have all required information for the timely review and approval of research studies involving human participants. This includes interpreting REB guidelines and practice as well as providing advice to researchers about the REB process and requirements. The Research Ethics Coordinator works with REB Chair, REB Staff, REB Board, and SickKids research staff to ensure that researchers and their teams are aware of and adhere to SickKids guidelines and policies & procedures, as well as national and international guidelines governing the ethical conduct of human participant research.

This position has primary responsibility for ensuring that researchers obtain and maintain ongoing ethics approval for human research.

**Here’s What You’ll Get To Do**:

- Interpret REB policies, guidelines and practice as relevant to each submission.
- Assist and ensure the REB Chairs and Board Members have all required information for the timely review and approval.
- Communicate and liaise with researchers and the REB Chair(s) and members to ensure that appropriate revisions are integrated before final approval is granted.
- Foster close collaborations between relevant colleagues and professionals to ensure the development, integration, review, endorsement and dissemination of procedures to follow in the conduct of clinical research
- Process renewals and adverse events/unanticipated problems reports
- Assist in the development and revision of REB tools, REB processes and REB website content.
- Assist in creating and disseminating educational material to the research community
- Ongoing audit and updating of all REB electronic and paper files.
- Recommend new and innovative procedures and approaches to be considered for implementation.
- Provide support to the REB subcommittees and support for special projects.
- Coverage for the other REB Coordinators in their absence.
- Attend and participate in national and regional conferences or meetings on research ethics.
- Remain current and adapt to frequent changes in research ethics and clinical trial regulations, standards, policies, and federal and provincial legislation.
- Respond to research ethics related inquiries from faculty, employees, trainees and students.

**Here’s What You’ll Need**:

- Bachelor’s degree in bioethics, life sciences, or other health care related area.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in a clinical research environment, either as a clinical research study coordinator or within a research ethics office.
- Research ethics related experience is highly desirable.
- Adept at working in a fast-paced, rapidly changing academic research environment.
- Able to establish good communication with researchers and provide timely responses.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills are required in order to prioritize work in response to multiple demands and high volume.
- Strong problem solving and consultative skills.
- Excellent writing, interpersonal and communication skill.
- Ability to handle highly sensitive confidential issues with discretion and respect.
- Flexibility related to changing priorities, and researcher requirements is essential

**Employment Type**: 1.00 FTE, Permanent Full-time with benefits
