- Are you looking to- Provide technical project direction and mentorship to junior staff and project managers-
- Build relationships with existing and new clients and partners across Ontario and throughout Canada-
- Have autonomy and the opportunity to interact and work with a community of technical experts from other Matrix regions- As an Intermediate Ecologist, you will join our Guelph or Mississauga, Ontario office as part of our Eastern Ecological Services Team of terrestrial and aquatic ecologists, and arborists. The successful applicant will be a leader that will contribute to the growth of the team and will be involved in a broad range of ecological projects with responsibilities as follows:

- Provide advice to internal and external clients related to municipal, transportation, and industrial environmental assessments, including regulatory/offsetting strategies, best management and mitigation practices, and environmental monitoring programs- Provide technical input and support to our senior staff on a variety of projects, which may include natural heritage assessments, environmental impact studies, arborist inventories / landscape restoration plans, wildlife studies, aquatic studies, integrated monitoring programs, stream realignments, and regulatory permits.-
- Conduct field-work and carry out standard field methods (tree inventories, Ecological Land Classification, botanical inventories, wildlife surveys [birds, amphibians, bats, SAR], fish habitat mapping, water quality and benthic sampling, fish capture, and relocations) in urban and remote environments across Ontario, with opportunities to support field programs-
- Prepare and/or review technical reports, proposals, cost estimates and marketing materials.-
- Mentor and develop junior staff members.What We Are Looking For- 5-7 years of consulting experience in a directly related role.-
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in biology, environmental science, or a related field with a focus on aquatic biology, ecology, soil science, and/or toxicology.-
- Technical abilities in the areas of ecological study design, field sampling protocols, statistical analysis and report preparation and review.-
- Strong organizational skills with the demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, plan, schedule, and coordinate various activities relating to projects and proposal submissions.-
- Knowledge and experience with relevant environmental legislation and policies such as the Endangered Species Act, Species at Risk Act, and Conservation Authorities Act-
- Business development experience backed by a superior track record of building productive client relationships.-
- Experience scoping, completing and participating in the regulatory review process.-
- Ecological Land Classification of Ontario certification (preferably southern Ontario) and Ontario Wetland-
- Strong project management skills, including developing and monitoring of budgets, approved project scope and schedule, organizational skills, staff supervision and team communications is considered as asset.-
- Evaluation System (OWES) evaluator is an asset-
- Arborist Certification is considered an asset-
- Additional certifications relating to ecological protocols or environmental monitoring (i.e. OBBN, OSAP, CAN-CISEC, etc.) is considered an asset-
- Self-motivated and possess strong written and verbal communication skills-
