Temporary Shelter Support Worker

Shelter Support Workers provide services to shelter clients including bed, food, overdose prevention and general support with well-being of clients who are dealing with complex bio-psycho-social issues. As a frontline staff member, you will actively participate in building a collaborative team, providing unbiased support, resolving conflict situations, and promoting CHHSA program principles.

**Other responsibilities include**:

- Recognizing and addressing potential emergency situations,
- Cleaning all areas of the shelter space on a regular basis
- Monitoring and recording client activities, encouraging pro-social bonding, client community, and life skills development, and providing calm and effective interventions,
- Establishing collaborative relationships with clients, using trauma informed practice.

Meal preparation
- Education in a human services field and/or 1+ year of recent and related experience with all the associated knowledge and skills,
- Experience working with vulnerable population with emphasis on mental health, addictions, homelessness,
- Knowledge of harm reduction principles,
- Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism, boundaries and confidentiality,
- Skills in human interaction, building relationships, and problem solving.
- Have a clear a Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search,
- Have a valid First Aid & CPR Certificate

*This is a tempory position with an end date of August 1 2023.*

**Salary**: $21.00 per hour

Schedule:

- 10 hour shift
- 12 hour shift
- Day shift
- Holidays
- Weekend availability

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Amherst, NS: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Shift availability:

- Day Shift (preferred)
- Overnight Shift (preferred)

Work Location: In person
