Reporting to the Manager, Data Services, the Data Solutions Analyst will be responsible for analyzing complex data sets, developing scalable data pipelines, and optimizing data storage and retrieval systems.

As a Data Solutions Analyst, you will be responsible for designing, building, optimizing, and maintaining the OSI’s data infrastructure. This will include developing processes to extract, transform, and load data (ETL) from various sources and systems, design and implement data models, and optimize data storage and retrieval systems for performance and scalability.

By leveraging your expertise in data modeling, ETL processes, database architecture and knowledge on diverse data sources, you will play a key role in enhancing the data-driven analysis of social, economic, and demographic data in Alberta. You will work on challenging and complex initiatives that make an impactful difference on the lives of Albertans.

**Role Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Manager, Data Services, the Data Solutions Analyst will be responsible for analyzing complex data sets, developing scalable data pipelines, and optimizing data storage and retrieval systems.

As a Data Solutions Analyst, you will be responsible for designing, building, optimizing, and maintaining the OSI’s data infrastructure. This will include developing processes to extract, transform, and load data (ETL) from various sources and systems, design and implement data models, and optimize data storage and retrieval systems for performance and scalability.

By leveraging your expertise in data modeling, ETL processes, database architecture and knowledge on diverse data sources, you will play a key role in enhancing the data-driven analysis of social, economic, and demographic data in Alberta. You will work on challenging and complex initiatives that make an impactful difference on the lives of Albertans.

**The key accountabilities for this role are varied and challenging, such as**:

- extract and transform data from multiple data sources to storage and use in the database.
- clean, aggregate, and organize data from disparate sources and transfer them to database.
- clean, structure and format datasets to make data consumable for analysis and reporting.
- assemble large, complex data sets that meet function business requirements.
- manage data and meta-data stored in the data warehouse.
- implement and oversee robust data security measures to protect sensitive government information and ensure compliance with relevant security requirements.
- monitor and optimize ETL processes to ensure optimal performance and scalability; identify and resolve issues, errors, and bottlenecks in the ETL process.
- monitor data processing systems, APIs, and external sources to ensure data quality and troubleshoot any issues that arise. This involves handling data quality, standardization, and enrichment processes.
- Incorporate visualization tools to effectively present information and data to both internal and external stakeholders.
- review data initiatives and project plans to recommend data sources or identify potential data gaps.
- support data acquisition, delivery, publishing, security, license agreements, and analytical support, relating to data from Statistics Canada, Canada Revenue Agency, other GoA departments, and external stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving skills as well as an ability to establish and sustain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
- Proven time management skills and experience in managing several projects simultaneously.

**Qualifications**:
**Requirement**:

- University Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a related field. Master’s degree is considered an asset.
- At least 4 years’ experience in building and optimizing data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) pipelines.

Equivalencies will be considered based on one-year experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.

**Assets**
- Familiarity ETL tools like SSIS, Azure data factory etc.
- Familiarity with data tools and platforms, such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Snowflake, Hadoop etc.
- Proficiency in database design, schema modelling, and performance optimization.
