**The Role and Opportunity**:
The Canadian Mental Health Association is looking for a Psychiatrist for the Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACT). As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the psychiatrist in conjunction with the ACT Manager has overall clinical responsibility for monitoring client treatment and staff delivery of clinical services. As a medical resource, the Psychiatrist is a leader, providing expertise for the personalized and coordinated care for clients with persistent and serious mental health challenges. The psychiatrist will consult and collaborate with the team to provide specialized treatment for clients with a full spectrum of mental health needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reporting to the Director of Community Support and Specialized Services, the psychiatrist on the ACT team works closely with the Program Manager to provide clinical leadership to the team in the delivery of comprehensive medical and psychosocial care to the ACT clients.

The psychiatrist will be responsible for the psychiatric and medical care provided by the team while the client are in the community and is accountable to the Ontario College of Physicians & Surgeons and CMHA Toronto for these professional services. They will review in detail the medical and psychiatric histories of all new clients to ensure appropriate diagnosis and all previous psychiatric interventions are recorded for future reference. The psychiatrist assesses or delegates and reviews the mental status of all clients on a regular basis and prescribes all psychotropic medications, assesses for adverse effects and monitors compliance.

The psychiatrist plays an active role in the education of all ACT team members to ensure competency in mental status assessments, knowledge of the pharmacological effects and side-effects of all psychotropic medications prescribed, and that team members can similarly and appropriately provide psychoeducation to clients regarding their medications. They will also provide leadership to the ACT Team in appropriate limit-setting required in the complex hierarchy of interventions that ACT clients may require to manage both team resources and to educate clients in self-management of their illness

The psychiatrist will serve as a backup for the ACT team for crisis intervention of clients. They will be a resource and provide leadership in regularly reviewing transference/counter-transference issues that may arise in the routine provision of client’s care.

The psychiatrist will be a strong communicator who understands the importance of continuous and effective communication, you are highly skilled in listening, engaging and consulting with diverse stakeholders including clients, internal and external health care providers and ACT team members.

**Hours of Work: 28 hours/week**
