**Job Description**:
Serving as an ambassador and communicator for the Algonquin College Advancement & Strategy division, the Alumni Relations Officer is responsible for building alumni engagement both online and through alumni initiatives. The Alumni Relations Officer is responsible for building, maintaining and contributing to a robust and active set of Algonquin College alumni social media networks.
The Alumni Relations Officer will also support the Algonquin College Advancement & Strategy communications initiatives through announcements of gifts, Advancement & Strategy website administration, maintenance and developing a social media presence.
The Alumni Relations Officer will oversee the organizing of alumni events and activities ranging from the alumni involvement in, to name a few, Alumni of Distinction Awards Night, Algonquin College Career Networking Fair, Algonquin College Alumni & Friends Network Advisory Committee meetings, alumni socials, alumni reunions, Job Fairs, orientations, convocations and will assist Algonquin College Advancement & Strategy as required with events and initiatives.
The Alumni Relations Officer will work in collaboration with colleagues representing schools and departments from across the College. The Alumni Relations Officer will work to create and maintain pathways for alumni and donor participation, work with the Algonquin College Advancement & Strategy to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward alumni giving and communicate both externally and internally on behalf of Advancement & Strategy and Alumni.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Plan, implement and promote alumni initiatives that support the College’s Strategic Plan in collaboration with colleagues within Advancement & Strategy and individual Faculties, Schools and programs to create and advance alumni affinity to Algonquin College;-
- Create and maintain pathways for alumni participation;- Organize submission and Algonquin College alumni involvement in Ontario College’s Premier’s Awards and Alumni of Distinction Awards Night;- Enhance College Branding;- Inspire alumni to adopt Algonquin College as their place for life-long learning;- Link alumni with current students;- Develop a culture of alumni philanthropy and partnership development;- Support of AC Day 1, networking initiatives and support to the alumni engagement events as required;- In conjunction with Alumni Relations and Registrar’s Office provide support and alumni presence at convocations at Ottawa, Pembroke and Perth for Spring graduations;- Support alumni reunions and Advancement & Strategy events;- Organization and execution of Alumni of Distinction Awards Night and any other potential Alumni Relations initiatives;- Monitor and assist alumni related events and activities (class reunions, guest speakers);- Identify and plan Alumni Engagement opportunities that exist in current Algonquin College activities and ensure alumni presence at appropriate venues;- Experience in project and event management as well as working with a wide range of volunteers;- Build, maintain and contribute to a robust and active set of alumni social media networks and web presence;- Communicate about related alumni/Advancement & Strategy and/or College activities to alumni and donors through various mediums;- Respond to alumni inquiries;-
- Well versed in social media and be a strong oral and written communicator.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum two (2) year diploma or equivalent in the field of Advertising, Public Relations, Marketing, Communications or related fields.- Minimum three (3) years' experience in Journalism, Public Relations and Communications, with demonstrated capability in social media scheduling, content creation, campaign development and execution and analytics platforms; and experience in writing in a variety of formats - including human interest articles, news releases, media advisories and script-writing.- Minimum five (5) years’ experience in developing constituent-based relations, ability to develop and produce editorial and technical writing output effectively and efficiently, experience producing and distributing electronic newsletters, maintaining current content on websites and communicating through social media, possess excellent written and verbal skills, experience in advertising, public relations, online marketing, social media or a similar field, and creating reports and extracting information from databases.
