**Scope for the position**:
Oversees and supervises the sanitation activities in the production and non-production areas (warehouse, restrooms, offices). Maintains sanitation of the plant, machinery, and surroundings in compliance with Canadian and USA Regulations, SQF, GMP, HACCP and Safety procedures. Ensures proper implementation and maintenance of food safety and sanitation programs. Conducts routine environmental sampling and monitoring for product safety.

**Basic function of the position**:
Monitors sanitary operations and practices to ensure sanitary standards are achieved. Establishes and maintains standard operating procedures for sanitation operations. Inspects equipment and facility and performs environmental monitoring for conformity to regulations and plant standards.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Compiles and maintains required reports and documentation regarding inspections, schedules, inventories and sanitary violations and steps taken to resolve deficiencies.
- Ensures that policies, safety rules, SFCR / FSMA standards and GMPs are followed and enforced.
- Identifies sanitation problems and recommends changes in equipment, processes, and work practices to improve sanitations standards.
- Suggests and implements continuous improvement ideas and changes in work instructions, resources, and training needs.
- Performs visual inspection of production areas for maintenance and sanitation work orders.
- Recommends cleaning chemicals, supplies, tools and equipment required for sanitation tasks in a cost-effective manner and ensuring that they meet all GMP requirements.
- Provides training in chemical handling, cleaning and sanitation practices and documentation.
- Works with the Maintenance, Quality and Manufacturing teams to coordinate sanitation activities.
- Collects swab samples for ATP, allergen, and pathogen testing and performs routine environmental monitoring of surfaces, water and air. Reports environmental monitoring results for trending.
- Assists in disposal of biohazards and chemical waste.
- Communicates with other departments regarding corrective actions, out-of-specifications and out-of-trend results.
- Monitors soap and sanitizer concentrations and coordinates with cleaning contractors.
- Effectively coordinates and leads team in daily activities to meet key performance indicators set by manager, with strong emphasis on employees, safety, food safety and quality.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

**Required qualifications, education, experience, training, skills, background, certifications**:

- Minimum post-secondary degree/diploma in science, food safety or sanitation related field. Bachelor degree preferred
- Experience in a GMP environment such as pharmaceuticals, food or natural health products (2-3 years)
- Experience in Sanitation and Environmental Monitoring preferred (1-2 years)
- Supervisory experience preferred (1-2 years)
- Intermediate computer skills in Word and Excel required
- Ability to work with regulatory inspectors (CFIA, Health Canada)
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
- Ability to read, analyse and interpret technical procedures and governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports and procedures and effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, employees or visitors
