**Position Title: Heavy Equipment Operator**

**Location: Voisey’s Bay, NL**

**Rotation and Shift: 2 Weeks on / 2 Weeks off**

**Day and Night Shift**

Work continues on the Voisey’s Bay Mine Expansion (VBME) project to execute the transition from open pit to underground mining. Silak-Municipal GP Limited has been awarded work to complete different scopes associated with these efforts. Our work typically entails a variety of civil construction tasks including cast-in-place concrete, earthworks and other tasks as required.

**Primary Duties and Responsibilities**:
Under the direction of the Supervisor, the Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for backfilling, digging, spreading gravel, trenching, loading trucks and hauling and dumping material in a safe and effective manner. The Heavy Equipment Operator is also responsible for inspecting, cleaning, and maintaining the equipment and performing repairs as required.

**As the team member responsible for material/logistics management you will**:
Backfilling, digging, gravel spreading, trenching, and loading trucks

Operating Heavy Equipment to lift and move bulk materials at the worksite

Grade various parts of the worksite to the designed elevation in a timely manner

Ability to understand rough or find grade finishing along with road construction plans

Responsible for understanding issues involving ground disturbance

Operating the equipment and attachments in a smooth and safe manner

Perform and document daily safety and maintenance checks

Repair and maintain vehicle in good condition

Advise the Supervisor of any requirements for maintenance or repairs

Be aware of surroundings at all times

Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task

Protect and promote the interest of this company in all matters and to take actions as required to satisfy such responsibilities

Ensure safety of fellow employees

Perform other duties as assigned

**Health, Safety and Environment Responsibilities**:
Adhere to local and externally relevant health and safety regulations and policies

Adhere to the company’s and client’s HSE system - comply with all safety policies and procedures

Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner

Lead by example. Wear PPE & seatbelts, observe road rules, etc.

Participate in investigation of incidents as appropriate

Working safely is a condition of employment

Ensure the safety of fellow workers

**Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience**:
**Mandatory requirement - applicants must have one of the following core competencies**:
**Road tractor driver as evidenced by 5 years’ experience including extensive heavy equipment floating experience and license.**

**Mandatory requirement - applicants must have one or more of the following secondary competencies**:
**Either of the three core competencies not listed as core competency by the applicant, or**

**Loader operator as evidenced by 5 years’ experience in loaders greater or equal to Cat 966, or**

**Telehandler operator as evidenced by 5 years’ experience including certification.**

Operators must be capable and willing and able to operate various types of Heavy Equipment and be a multifaceted versatile operator

Must be well versed in construction site protocols, rules and codes of conduct

Willingness to work in a team environment

Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that projects are completed properly

**Other**:
**The Heavy Equipment Operator will be part of a small crew with diverse duties. The operator will assist the crew with manual tasks when available**.

Applicants must possess a valid traction engine license

All applicants must successfully pass competency assessment program

**Working Conditions**:
The Heavy Equipment Operator role may include physically strenuous activities. The Heavy Equipment Operator will be lifting, pulling and managing heavy equipment and objects, requiring the use of PPE such as hardhats, steel toe boots, and reflective vests to minimize risk on the worksite. The worksite environment for this position is outside in varying weather conditions.
