The Health Physicist Lead will work under the direction of the Historic Waste Program (HWP) Manager, Radiation Protection to provide health physics (HP) and radiation protection (RP) support to the Historic Waste Program (HWP) Management Office as well as, HP consultative advice to HWP Health Physicists (HPs), Radiation Protection (RP) Technicians and/or CNL remediation contractors and developing and implementing effective and compliant radiation protection services for the HWP.

- Maintain strong communications with CNL Corporate functions to ensure current CNL policies and practices are being maintained and delivered
- Communicate complex RP principles and requirements to CNL staff, CNL contractors, Management, Senior Management, and members of the public.
- Communicate effectively and lead the HP team to ensure deliverables are prepared at a very high level on time and on budget.
- Ability to contribute effectively to the preparation of clear and concise documents, considering the intended audience (e.g., CNSC, CNL management, public).
- Ensure radiation protection is being delivered in compliance with CNL’s CNSC licence requirements as well as CNL’s PHAI RP requirements.
- Perform detailed compliance assessments/audits/oversight of CNL’s remediation contractors to ensure they are in compliance with CNL’s CNSC licence requirements as well as CNL’s PHAI RP requirements.
- Complete assignments with high quality following established HP principles.
- Complete radiation dose assessments for complex exposure scenarios.
- Evaluating radiological hazards and remedial measure in high alpha contamination areas.
- Development and/or review of highly complex ALARA plans in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Reviewing radiation dose data from multiple streams including effective, equivalent, and committed dose.
- Prepare/Review Annual compliance monitoring reports (ACMR) for HWP radiation protection on an annual basis.
- Responsible for meeting PHAI quality requirements as defined in the PHAI QA Plan and supporting procedural documents in conducting the work.
- The HP Lead will be based in the HWP Management Office in Port Hope. Travel will be required on a periodic basis to Chalk River and possibly other CNL sites across Canada. The incumbent is required to hold a valid driver’s licence to commute between office and work sites and to carry a CNL provided cell phone.

**What we are looking for**:

- Honours bachelor’s degree in science or engineering. Preferably post-graduate degree in health physics or equivalent studies.
- Qualified Health Physicist with five years related RP experience, preferably in Nuclear licensed site remediation, radioactive waste management or decommissioning.
- CNL Group 1 Health Physicist equivalent training an asset.
- 3 - 5 years of leadership and/or supervisory experience with demonstrated effective team leadership, team building, and conflict resolution skills.
- Extensive experience working in a highly regulated environment, preferably in the nuclear industry.
- Knowledge and understanding of radiation protection philosophies, procedures, equipment, and techniques used both in theory and practice.
- Experience leading a team of professionals with a common goal to develop, implement and monitor compliance to established requirements.
- Strong and effective written and oral communication skills.
- Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom.
