Field Geologist

We are seeking an individual to fulfill the role of **Field Geologist**

The **Field Geologist** will be responsible for carrying out a variety of geological tasks including collecting rock samples, recording field data compiling and organizing and interpreting data for use in project reports. The individual will be working within a team as well as individually to ensure efficient and thorough traverses are completed within the established time-frame. This position calls for the ability to carry a heavy field pack and spending long periods of time traversing through wilderness in various weather conditions. Commitment to workplace safety is mandatory for this position.

**RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES**
- Record relationships within and between sets of outcrops to collect useful information for the project at hand
- Collect field data in the form of notes, photographs, measurements, and physical samples
- Adhering to proper sampling procedures and protocols
- Recognize and identify a variety of minerals, textures, structures, and rock types
- Utilize GPS and mapping software (e.g., QGIS) to create large scale maps
- Survey small scale areas using tape-and-compass and pace-and-compass methods
- Research the project area of interest, have a working knowledge of the local geology
- Compile, sort, and interpret field data for use in project reports
- Work within a team to create a cohesive model

**JOB REQUIREMENTS**
- Work long hours outdoors in various weather conditions
- Self-motivated, able to complete tasks with mínimal supervision
- Ability to work on a remote site and on a rotation-based schedule
- Safety conscious mentality and ability to demonstrate it
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

**QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE**
- BSc in Geology from a recognized Canadian University or equivalent
- Minimum 1-year industry experience preferred
- Experience with QGIS or other geological software is an asset, but not a requirement
- Valid G driver’s license or equivalent
- Experience using All Terrain Vehicles (ATV) is an asset but not mandatory
- Boating licence is an asset by not mandatory
- Valid First Aid Certificate preferred

Full-time hours at competitive wages (based on qualifications and experience). Bayside offers training, a safe work environment and opportunity for advancement.
