Material Planner

**Primary Function**
Responsible for all aspects of the raw material planning process in a lean manufacturing environment including but not limited to; communication with suppliers and internal customers to ensure all raw material needs to support production requirements. Ensures customer order delivery commitments are met while achieving company cost, lead time, and inventory reduction goals.
The MRO purchasing responsibilities are to acquire indirect materials and parts, as well as retain the services necessary for the operation of the plant, ensuring that the system is reliable in terms of the purchase order information. Includes cost evaluation functions, quantities received, and quality of service rendered by providers.

**SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY for a Material Planner III**:
**SPECIFIC DUTIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES** _(List in order of importance)_
- Analyze MRP and forecast data, monitor generation and transmission of purchase orders, and maintain master data to meet production needs with mínimal inventory investment.
- Create and monitor supply plans (SIOP) to identify changes and to determine their effect on material requirements schedules.
- Collaborate with Demand Planning team when deviations in forecast are encountered
- Work closely with operations and finished goods planning teams to ensure proper coverage and accurate schedules.
- Align with critical suppliers on availability and key risks and constraints on short and midterm
- May plan materials across multiple sites/business units based on overall centralization initiatives
- Analyze and eliminate slow-moving and obsolete inventory.
- Reviews Product Change Process and takes necessary actions to manage product transitions while minimizing obsolescence.
- Communicates company requirements to suppliers as well as internal customers.
- Coordinates material shipments with internal and external logistics services.
- Identifies and develops improved material supply processes to support lean initiatives.
- May supervise less experienced planners in their activities
- Launch the cycle counts and verify counts, physical inventory counts.
- Maintain and develops our SAP production scheduling as well as GUI (Graphic unit interface)
- Ensure CTPAT procedures are maintained and followed in the facility.
- Analyze costs.
- Other duties as assigned.
**SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY Purchasing MRO**:
**SPECIFIC DUTIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES** _(List in order of importance)_
- Quotes and orders made
- Evaluates suppliers ensuring best prices, quality and service
- Analyze Costs
- Analyzes repetitive purchasing items at least twice a year and evaluates the re-quote if necessary.
- Check the information in the warehouse receipt against invoice and purchase order to continue with the checkout process in finance.
- Assists in the resolution of discrepancies in payment to suppliers.
- Contributes to the maintenance of the budget
- Implements the development of new suppliers.
- Participate in continuous improvement projects (including processing purchase orders)
- Assist with inventory level necessary for manufacturing supplies, tools, to support production needs
- Take periodic inventory and requisitions stock as needed
- Other responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
**Qualifications**
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience - Career in Management or Engineering preferred
- Computer packages (MS Office).
- Legal issues related to procurement contracts.
- Experience in MRP Inventory Control, Kan-Ban, Minimum and Maximum.
- Cyclic Experience Counts, Safety Stocks, ABC classification, Optimization of Excess and obsolete, contracts with suppliers, materials on consignment.
- Evaluation and development of suppliers.
- Interpretation of Canadian and U.S. laws regarding imports and exports.
- Continuous Improvement Methodology (7 steps).
- Negotiation Techniques
- Work under pressure
- Accurately identifies and meets the needs and expectations of customers.
- Minimum of 5 years related work experience
**ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS**:
- APICS Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) preferred but not required.
- Requires in-depth knowledge of ERP planning systems, BOM structure, manufacturing processes, product knowledge, material systems and the ability to read and interpret part drawings etc.
- Excellent problem-solving skills required.
