IMCO is looking for a Principal to join the Sustainable Investing (SI) team during an exciting period of transformative change and growth as we deliver IMCO’s sustainability objectives across its portfolio.- Reporting to the Senior Principal, Sustainable Investing, you will play several key roles:- You will work with deal teams, management teams, senior stakeholders, and external managers to deliver world-class sustainability incorporation in our public market portfolio across the investment lifecycle;-
Contribute to building the team’s expertise on cutting edge sustainability issues and participate in strategic initiatives across the SI team’s mandate as required.-
As a member of our team, you will deliver impact on multiple elements of our sustainability strategy by:
Capital Deployment:- Supporting complex ESG analysis/due diligence across asset classes, including direct investment deals and external manager selection, with thorough understanding of what constitutes material ESG issues and how they may impact investment outcomes;-
- Working in partnership with investment teams on providing advice, research and critical thinking in ESG integration activities for active deals and asset management;-
- Stay up to date on methodologies and tools for ESG and climate change risk assessment by continuously learning and being an expert resource in this space.Value Creation:- Leading IMCO’s stewardship and engagement activities across public markets.-
- Developing a thoughtful approach to proxy voting activities as well as engagement with investee companies and external managers;-
- Building sectoral/thematic/ESG topic expertise to drive value creation and engagement initiatives;-
- Strengthening and simplifying existing processes, with a focus on efficiency and bringing order to complex processes.Insights:- Supporting the development and translation of data analytics and portfolio measurement tools to advance ESG implementation and progress on IMCO’s Climate Action Plan-
- Monitor global SI industry developments, regulatory developments, ESG risks and related financial and pension industry trends to inform IMCO’s sustainability strategy, worldview, and priorities;-
- Conduct research and provide sustainability focused insights to support investment analysis, stewardship activities, and portfolio analytics.You will bring:- Minimum 8-10 years of relevant professional work experience in sustainable/responsible investing, investment management, finance, and/or other relevant areas;-
- Postgraduate degree in Business, Finance, Law, or Economics, or fields such as engineering, climate science, environmental science, and/or other relevant disciplines. The Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and/or Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designations would be an asset;-
- Strong knowledge of sustainable investing principles and tools applied by professionals across the investment lifecycle including screening, integration (e.g., ESG due diligence), stewardship (e.g., engagement, proxy voting), as well as sustainable investing trends, taxonomy, and policies.-
- Comprehensive understanding of asset management and financial markets; as well as familiarity with a range of financial instruments including alternative investment strategies as well as more traditional passive and active equity and fixed income strategies;-
- The ability to grasp and translate technical concepts into insights, to think independently, and to design and drive the organization’s initiatives on key sustainability topics;-
- Demonstrated ability to engage, influence and forge relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels;-
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities, with the ability to drive change and foster a culture of sustainability within the organization;-
- Excellent analytical and strategic thinking skills with sound business judgement;-
- Excellent writing and presentation skills with the ability to communicate with a broad stakeholder group;-
