**Summary of the Position**:
This Summer Student position will assist the Municipal Bylaw offices with Property Standards and Parking related tasks, addressing the diverse needs of our community and maintaining high quality service.

**Responsible to**:
Chief Building Official (Direct)

Municipal Law Enforcement Officer (Indirect)

**1.0 RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- (The following sets out the principal functions of the position and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all work requirements)._

1.1 Assist By-law officers with Property Standards and parking complaints from the public, educate complainants.

1.2 Assist By-law officers with inspecting to determine compliance with the Municipality’s regulatory, Zoning and Property Standards, By-laws as well as agreements between the public and Municipality when required.

1.3 Assist By-law officers with the enforcement of the Municipality’s parking by-laws, including parking meter infractions, and prohibited infractions.

1.4 Assist By-law officers with the collection of coin from all parking meters on a weekly basis; coordinate the repair of the parking meters; collect payments for infractions, recording and depositing of same on a weekly basis.

1.5 Assist By-law officers with the response to enquiries, phone calls, complaints in a professional and courteous manner.

1.6 Adhere to high standards of ethical behavior and demonstrate their understanding that their personal actions impact the public’s perception of the Municipality.

1.7 Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Building Official or designate.

**2.0 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**:
**Knowledge**

2.1 Enrolled in Community College in Law and Security, Police Foundation, Criminology, or a related field.

2.2 Basic knowledge of the Ontario Court of Justice, the Provincial Offences Act, The Municipal Act, Ontario Evidence Act, and other related Provincial and Federal Legislation would be an asset.

**Skills and Abilities**

2.1 Verbal communication skills including courtesy, tact and explanation.

2.2 Interpersonal and customer service skills.

2.3 Verbal communication skills including courtesy, tact and explanation.

2.4 Written communication skills including grammar/spelling skills, proofreading skills.

2.5 Organizational and time management skills.

2.6 Flexible and adaptable, open to and accepting of change.

2.7 Detail oriented.

**3.0 OTHER**

3.1 Valid and satisfactory Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check.

3.2 Valid and satisfactory ‘G’ driver’s license as well as access to your own vehicle is an asset, but not a requirement.

**4.0 WORKING CONDITIONS**:
4.1 Varied work environment with requirement to work outside in inclement weather and work in an office environment with significant interruptions.

May to August, up to 35 hours per week

**Compensation**:
$16.38 per hour
