As the **Fiber Design Specialist,** you will be responsible for the design and documentation of Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) network in a Geographic Information System (GIS) database. This means you can develop your skill set in drafting, fiber network designing, generating construction and/or splicing reports, and building robust reports to determine the best locations for construction. Your projects will include expanding our network into new towns that have yet to receive fiber, expanding our services in existing towns, and augmenting our network in areas where demand exceeds our current capabilities.
Fiber Design Specialist
Hybrid - One day a week
Location : Mississauga, Ontario
- Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the delivery of fibre optic projects in a dynamic environment with varying degrees of complexity, timeframes and capital.
- Responsible for the design and planning of standard and new optical architecture, considering optical link reach, fibre design efficiency, network reliability, redundancy and scalability.
- Accurately document fibre details on exiting fibre assets and take all necessary steps to ensure the data integrity of the fibre network is maintained.
- Provide technical support to system planners and network specialists for the selection of routes, ensuring optimum cost-effectiveness and performance of our existing and expanding fibre network.
- Review business requirements and engineering plans to engineer and deliver accurate and reliable fibre solutions.
- Manage existing inside cable territory fibre network and provide detailed instructions to technical staff.
- Ensure projects are completed to engineering spec, and planning requirements and delivered on time. Review, manage and technically approve plans prepared up by contractors.
- Interpret OTDR / CD / PMD traces, loss measurements and other fibre characterization specifications for circuit acceptance.
- Provide fibre network design alternatives and assist in optimizing fibre network capability.
- Prepare fibre cost estimates (FERS) and produce CAs, BOM and POs for in cable territory projects.
- Knowledge & Experience:
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience, preferably in Outside Plant Engineering.
- Sound knowledge of FTTx, HFC and Fibre Optic Networks Telecommunications Environment experience is desirable
- Post-Secondary education in telecommunications, civil engineering or a related field.
- Experience in managing multiple, simultaneous, high volume projects self-motivated with the ability to work well independently and on a team.
- Detail-oriented with an aptitude for tracking progress across many projects
- Excellent interpersonal skills, strong organizational, written, verbal and time management skills
- Ability to achieve results through teamwork
- Project Management education is an asset
- Sound knowledge of Wireline Access Network is an asset
