**The Position**:
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Skills Development & Employment Services and the Supervisor of Project SEARCH, the Skills Trainer will work closely with the Project SEARCH team to train and support interns with their integration into various departments and their development of transferrable employment skills. The Project SEARCH team, hereinafter referred to as “the team”, consists of a Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) teacher, and a designated staff from the Abilities Centre and Regional Municipality of Durham (RMD).

**The Program**:
Project SEARCH is an internationally successful 10-month transition-to-work program for young adults with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities. The successful applicant will work in collaboration with the team to assess skills and gather data to develop individualized internships using resources from the Project SEARCH portal. This program is being implemented in partnership with RMD, DCDSB and the Abilities Centre.

**Where You’ll Work**:
The primary work location is any of the following RMD sites in the Region of Durham:

- 605 Rossland Rd E, Whitby,
- 600 Oshawa Blvd N, Oshawa, or
- 590 Oshawa Blvd N, Oshawa.

**What You’ll Do**:

- Collaborate. You will work with the team and participating RMD departments to site opportunities, observe the work of the department (i.e., culture, rules, and expectations), create tasks lists, and perform job analyses. You will assist the team in providing ongoing assessments of interns using Project SEARCH tools, to identify employment barriers, goals, and on-the-job supports. You will consult the team and RMD staff on tools and techniques that support intern learning and success and ensure that intern performance meets the departments needs. You will provide information, education, and training to RMD staff regarding the Project SEARCH model and supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. You will collaborate with the team, partners, interns, and families/caregivers to develop transition plans that clearly outline next steps to assist interns in their pathway to employment. You will participate in team meetings, debriefs, and case reviews to communicate with the team on an ongoing basis regarding intern updates and issues that may affect the intern’s progress, and provide feedback on program improvements.
- Support. You will provide individualized training and support to interns to facilitate their: learning and completion of tasks effectively and independently, performance to meet department quality and productivity standards, and development of marketable and transferable skills that lead to employment. You will utilize innovative strategies to coach, mentor, and provide constructive feedback to each intern to achieve their employment goals. You will support interns’ transit training with Durham Region Transit and accompany interns on the bus during training sessions.
- General. You will access the Project SEARCH Member Portal to track and report program outcomes, stay current with resources, complete on-line trainings, and request technical assistance. You will assist with events that involve promotion of Project SEARCH, intern selection, and graduation. You will assist the team with training room set-up and in-class learning of per-employment curriculum. You will complete other duties as directed by your immediate supervisor.
