Reporting to the program manager, the unit manager is accountable for the effective management of human, financial and physical resources in the department. This first line management position is expected to provide clinical leadership to ensure quality care within the department following unit policies, procedures and goals. As a member of the management team the unit manager may assist in development of strategic plans, support process improvement initiatives, collaborate with team to determine priorities, develop and implement operational plans. The unit manager is expected to incorporate evidence and best practice into daily operations through collaboration with the management team, physicians and interdisciplinary team members. The unit manager monitors and organizes the workflow and efficient delivery of patient care services through staff scheduling and assignment of work duties. This position is non-unionized.

**Required Qualifications**:
Required Baccalaureate of Nursing degree (BScN) required. Current registration in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (C.R.N.A.). Current Heart and Stroke Foundation Basic Life Support (B.L.S.) Health Care Provider (Level C) certification required. Five (5) years of Emergency department or related clinical experience required. Charge nurse experience required. (Note: a combination of education and experience may be considered).

**Additional Required Qualifications**:
Proficient in a computerized environment including MS Office Suite. Excellent organizational, communication and conflict resolution skills. Ability to exercise independent, objective decision making. Commitment to Covenant Health mission and values.

**Preferred Qualifications**:
Two (2) years of experience leading teams in an acute care setting preferred. Previous experience in a fast-paced highly stressful environment preferred. Advanced practice courses (ACLS, TNCC, PALS, ITLS, etc.) preferred. CNA Emergency certification preferred. Advanced leadership training preferred. Advanced education (ie. Master's degree in Nursing, Health Sciences or Business) preferred.
