**About the position**

Reporting to the Manager Nursing Resource Team in collaboration with the unit manager and accountable to the

patient's assigned Nurse, the Unit Care Aide provides constant or close observation of patients for the purpose of

advancing the patient's safety, and according to policies and procedures at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences.

The Unit Care Aide will also when required provide care to the patients by performing a variety of tasks that will

provide support to the nursing staffs of the unit.

**Qualifications**:

- Currently enrolled in a Health related program ( e.g. Nursing, Personal Support Worker)
- Previous enrolement in a health care related program or support worker program will be considered.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to use good judgment in assessing difficult situations
- Demonstrate a patient centered approach to providing care and services
- Experience working in a health care environment
- CPR certification required

**The Unit Care Aide will also be able to perform the following skills and duties**:

- Assist clients with bathing, grooming and dressing, and other personal hygiene activities
- Helps prepare meal trays for patients (i.e. opening lids, cutting meat, etc.).
- Feed clients and, when required, measure intake and output
- Assist with bed transfers, lifting, turning, walking and crutch walking
- Assist with toileting, including use of bedpan, commode or toilet
- Empty ostomy bags, collect stool specimens and assist with toileting
- Assist patients with transfers and ambulation including use of cane, walker and wheelchair
- Answers call bells and relays messages as required.
- Informs the primary care nurse of any patient concerns.
- Ensure the safety of their clients, themselves and others

**Salary Range**: $21.631
