Executive Council supports the Premier and Cabinet to ensure outcomes are achieved by supporting strategic planning, coordinated policy development, and informed decision-making for ministries as they implement the government’s agenda.

Executive Council includes the Office of the Premier, Deputy Ministers' and Associate Deputy Ministers' Offices, Cabinet Coordination and Ministry Services, Policy Coordination Office, and Intergovernmental Relations.

Intergovernmental Relations (IGR) leads the coordination and advancement of Alberta's priorities as they relate to other governments across Canada. IGR works with other ministries across the Government of Alberta to develop collaborative approaches and expand multi-lateral and bi-lateral partnerships.

The Economic and Resource Policy Branch of Intergovernmental Relations Division offers an opportunity for an individual with strong negotiation and leadership skills, a thorough understanding of the federal and provincial systems of government, and a strong background in public policy.

Reporting to the Director of Economic and Resource Policy, you will work in a multi-disciplinary environment where your solid knowledge of federalism and economic, environmental and resource development policy will be used to provide analysis and strategic advice to develop an Alberta position or response to emerging issues. You will demonstrate your strategic thinking, sound judgment and exceptional relationship building and communication skills.

You will have the ability and the flexibility to support and influence a variety of fora, including the New West Partnership, Council of the Federation, and sector-specific ministerial meetings. You will identify emerging issues and analyze the implications for Alberta’s overall strategic direction to ensure interdepartmental and intergovernmental coordination; be able to provide advice on policy and strategy; represent the Ministry in intergovernmental meetings; and participate in the negotiation of intergovernmental agreements to ensure Alberta’s intergovernmental interests are represented.

**Qualifications**:

- Requirement:
- University graduation in Political Science, Business, Law, Social Science, or a related discipline supplemented by four (4) years of related experience.
- Equivalencies to be considered as below:
- Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.

Relevant work experience with intergovernmental issues and decision making processes and structures in the Alberta government and/or other Canadian governments are desirable assets.

**Notes**:
This position works a standard 36.25 hour work week, however, the incumbent may be required to work extended or irregular hours, or shifts with mínimal notice.
