Trophy Foods Inc. is Canadian owned and operated with over 40 years of experience in serving our customers. We produce edible nuts, dried fruits, confectionery and bulk foods under our Trophy brand. We also work with grocery retailers, mass merchandisers, drug channel, and food service customers across the country to create and produce a wide variety of private label branded products.
**Overview**:The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist will report to the HR Director with a dotted line to the Plant Manager. This role will be required to promote safety attitudes, safe work practices, as well as manage, maintain, and administer the Trophy Foods’ Environmental Health and Safety Program (EHS) with the objective of minimizing accidents, injuries, and environmental damage.
**Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to**:
- Develop, implement, and maintain EHS programs in collaboration with the Operations teams, including standard operating procedures, policies, and practices to ensure compliance to governmental regulatory standards, mitigate risk, optimize worker’s health and safety, and foster a positive occupational health and safety culture.
- Be up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of H&S legislation in order to ensure compliance.
- Identify workplace risks and implement procedures, best practices, and training initiatives that mitigate EHS risk exposure.
- Participate in investigations and resolution of incidents/accidents including root-cause analysis, identifying corrective action, closure of non-conformances, and preventative measures.
- Assist with incident investigations, near miss reporting, job hazard analysis, physical demands analysis and risk assessments.
- Collaborate with the HR Director in the identification, development and provision of appropriate health and safety related information, instruction, and training and conduct safety training and orientation within the scope of his/her experience and certification.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of the company's safety procedures, accidents, inspections, training activities, safe work practices, and related events.
- Maintain EHS performance metrics and communicate analysis of trends, observations and suggestions for incident reduction measures to management.
- Lead of the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) and coordinate meetings. Define a schedule and execute monthly Safety Audits in conjunction with JHSC. Through JHSC collaboration, prioritize identified actionable items and ensure corrective action is taken. Record, distribute, and post JHSC minutes on employee bulletin boards as per regulatory requirements.
- Manage Workers’ Compensation program (WSIB) and return to work management.
- Update and maintain a WHMIS Program, including a current MSDS and staff training.
- Participate and assist in the development and sourcing of new safety products ensuring effectiveness, consistency, and financial prudence. Work closely with all outside vendors as required.
- Provide health and safety expertise for the plant and warehouse for all new projects and change management activities.
- Coach Supervisors and Managers and assist in resolving issues related to Health and Safety on the production floor and to ensure proper administration of EHS programs.

**Experience, Qualifications, and Educational Requirements**:
- University/College Degree in (EHS) Environmental Health and Safety or related field or equivalent work experience in an OHSA background.
- 3+ years of Health and Safety experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience in building a safety culture and communicating to get team member buy-in.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety Regulations (The Act) and resourceful in referencing regulatory information.
- Understanding of federal, provincial, and city safety requirements, including OHSA.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking, proofreading, and presentation.
- Excellent organizational skills with ability to perform administrative tasks with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to demonstrate good, sound judgment.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities at the same time while meeting deadlines.
- Ability to perform at a high level in a face-paced and dynamic work environment -flexible, and highly motivated team player.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Teams.
