MPNH is looking for a **Summer Camp Assistant** to join for a two-month period from **July 2 to August 31, 2024**, as part of the Federal Government of Canada’s Summer Jobs Initiative. Program Assistants will work within a team environment to provide a safe and fun program for children aged 5-12 years. Responsibilities include the following: ensuring overall safety and wellbeing of children; maintaining child records, attendance; organizing daily activities, crafts and field trips; and communicating with families

**Qualifications**
- **This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs. To be eligible, youth must be: between 15 to 30 years of age at the start of employment due to the work taking place in a licensed childcare setting.**:

- The individual must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
- Post-secondary education in child and youth care, community recreation, social work, counseling, psychology and/or community services/development.
- Early Childhood Education diploma and License to Practice preferred.
- Completion of a 20-hour Responsible Adult Course (or willingness to attend training), or a combination of courses in child development, guidance, health and safety, or nutrition.
- Minimum 1 year experience working in a childcare setting - licensed program is preferred.
- Age-appropriate programming experience (arts, crafts, activities) for children.
- Ability to form positive relationships with children and adults.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse environment, with individuals and communities of all backgrounds and abilities.
- Knowledge of the Mount Pleasant community and community services.
- Valid First Aid Certificate.
- Valid Class 4 Driver’s License is preferred.
- BC Driver’s License and Food Safe Certificate are assets, but not required.
- Successful completion of a criminal records check is required.
- This position requires you to work in-person and onsite.

**Salary**:$18.72/hour plus 4% in lieu of vacation pay.

**Terms**:35 hours per week for a consecutive period of 8 weeks (July 2 to August 31, 2024).

**Job Type**: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 2 months

Pay: $18.72 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week

Flexible Language Requirement:

- French not required

Schedule:

- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed

Work Location: In person

Expected start date: 2024-07-02
