**Objective & Overview**

The Lead Hand is responsible for the supervision and operation of the crushing plant. The plant may operate on day and night shifts. The Lead Hand’s primary focus is to lead the health and safety of the plant, this will be done while operating to achieve the highest productivity at the lowest cost of production at all stages of the operation. The Lead Hand will lead by example. The Lead Hand works alongside plant staff for all plant activities - maintenance tasks, inspections, clean up, feeding the plant using a wheel loader, etc.

Requires travel in the Kingston - Ottawa area.

**Responsibilities**

Safety Culture: Develop and instill a site level safety culture through consistent engagement with employees and contractors with an objective of “zero” harm; Lead daily huddles and participates with the JHSC to demonstrate commitment to workplace safety; Ensure front line employee compliance to all applicable local and regional health & safety policies and initiatives, including but not limited to hazard reporting, risk assessment, Working at Heights, Confined Space, Energy Isolation and Hot Work. Maintain a clean and orderly work area.

Human Resources: Responsible for the individual development, motivation and training of direct reports to maximize their performance; Assist in the administration of disciplinary measures in a fair and consistent manner to address / correct substandard performance of all direct reports; Assist in the site hiring process; Promote operational efficiency;
Production and Maintenance: Supports shift scheduling to meet production demands; Supports meeting daily production targets; Responsible for participating in the short-term planning and execution of maintenance activities. Involved in the daily implementation and compliance to the Maintenance Module. May run heavy equipment to feed the plant and/or perform cleanup activities.

Financial: Ordering parts within operating budget and help to identify cost reduction opportunities;
Customer Focus: Coordinate with Quality and Shipping personnel to address quality issues related to production issues.

Land: Compliance to Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) requirements.

Environmental: Assist in following the Environmental Management System (EMS); Observe site and plant for dust emissions and enact action plans to keep it under control. Check and monitor pumps.

**Relationship with Others**
- Reports to Plant Manager
- Works with the Safety Representatives and JHSC to develop and maintain a culture of safety
- Supports site departments as required
- Works with Safety, Quality, Land and Environmental personnel as required

**Specific Accountabilities**:

- Safety: Daily Huddles, Field Level Risk Assessments, Identifying Hazards, Incident reporting, Safety Inspections
- Land/Environment: Dust and Noise control
- Labour: Shift Schedules, People Development
- Production: Manufacturing KPI’s, Maintenance management, Daily production sheets, Downtime reports, Daily production activities
- Customer Focus: Quality KPI’s

- Reports to the Plant Manager
- 350,000 tonnes of aggregate production
- 24hr Operation

**Qualification Profile**
- Education & Work Experience:_
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
- An undergraduate degree, college diploma, or equivalent field experience
- Ability to operate a front end loader an asset
- A background including heavy equipment operation, preventative maintenance
- Mechanical aptitude
- Experience in drilling and blasting an asset
- Knowledge & Skills:_
- Strong communication
- Problem solving and analytical skills
- Excellent people management skills
- Disciplined and process-oriented.
