Are you Southwest Ontario’s next afternoon show host?

This is an amazing opportunity to be at the helm of a successful afternoon radio show serving London, Windsor and points in between. You’ll be based in London, Ontario, and host a show that resonates with and connects people across southwestern Ontario.

You have a deep appreciation for the region - home to some of the fastest-growing communities in Canada - and you’re passionate about exploring its evolution on-air. You’re ready to run with the news of the day and take those stories further, adding context and accountability. You have wide-ranging interests and a sense of play. You are curious by nature and eager to connect with the audience out in the community.

You are an experienced journalist who wants to perform a leading role in the newsroom, including helping to set the agenda for Afternoon Drive. You will perform a variety of tasks associated with the preparation and on-air presentation of program material in conjunction with the team.

You are able to write and create video for digital platforms and will strive to creatively bring content from Afternoon Drive to online and streaming audiences. You are committed to staying connected with the news of the day, with your listeners and with your team - even after the microphone is turned off at the end of each show.

Job requirements:
- Present live and breaking interviews on-air in a clear, engaging and professional manner.- Navigate live and pre-taped interviews.- Steer multiple stories and topics on-air over the course of the program.- Write and revise intros and scripts to maximize personal voice for on-air.- Perform off script and be comfortable ad-libbing.- Pitch relevant story ideas, guests, and treatments.- Work collaboratively with the team to develop show concepts and continuity.- Provide constructive feedback on editorial, broadcast, and production aspects of programming.- Vet scripts for facts and voice, as required.- Develop and maintain diverse journalistic contacts.- Travel to field assignments and breaking news coverage, as required.- Participate in public outreach and community events, as required.

Relevant qualifications:
- Minimum five years experience in journalism reporting and/or hosting, or in a relevant field.- University degree or equivalent.- Superb journalistic skills and experience, including broadcast writing, storytelling, interviewing, researching, and fact-checking.- Superior critical thinking and analytical skills and the ability to make complex stories and issues easily understood.- Deep understanding of news and current affairs in Canada and abroad, with a particular knowledge or interest in southwestern Ontario.- Knowledge, interest and ability to report on a range of topics including politics, arts, culture, sports, business, and entertainment.- Experience conducting one-on-one conversations and panel discussions.- Experience pitching program ideas, guests, topics, lining up interviews, and preparing backgrounds.- Experience in news gathering in the field.- Proven ability to motivate teams.- Proven ability to work effectively under deadline pressure, both independently and cooperatively, in a team environment.- Knowledge of CBC editorial policies, including CBC's Journalistic Standards and Practices.- Knowledge of an additional language (or more) is an asset.- Knowledge of digital and streaming platforms (audio and video) to connect with and grow audiences.
