**POSITION OVERVIEW**
Join our dynamic team as a Building Official - Plumbing Inspector 1 in the vibrant city of Maple Ridge. In this role, you will engage in regulatory, inspectional, and enforcement activities of a technical nature, focusing on the meticulous inspection and review of plans for plumbing, sprinkler, sewers, and cross connection installations in new and existing residential, commercial, and industrial buildings governed by Part 9 of the BC Building Code. Your primary responsibility will be ensuring compliance with applicable municipal standards, codes, bylaws, regulations, and acts. The position requires the approval or rejection of installations, and the enforcement of regulations with a balanced approach of firmness and tact.

As a valuable member of our team, you will also provide technical information to property owners, contractors, engineers, architects, and other municipal staff, offering expertise on matters related to the scope of the work. This role demands a high degree of independence in judgment and action regarding technical aspects, with collaborative discussions on unusual problems or policy matters held with an administrative superior. Your work will be reviewed for its effectiveness in service delivery and adherence to established practices and standards.

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**
Completion Grade 12 supplemented by completion of a plumbing trade at a journeyman level and Level 1 Plumbing Qualification with the Building Officials Association of British Columbia plus considerable experience as a journeyman plumber; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**
- Considerable knowledge of plumbing, sprinkler and sewer standards, codes, bylaws, regulations and acts.
- Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and equipment used in the plumbing and sprinkler trades.
- Sound knowledge of the policies and procedures related to the work performed.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts.
- Ability to deal effectively with owners, contractors, tradesmen, engineers, architects and others and to use sound judgement in impartially, tactfully and firmly enforcing bylaws, standards and regulations related to building construction.
- Ability to prepare clear, concise reports and to express oneself effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to prepare and present evidence in court as required, to prepare reports and correspondence, and to maintain records related to the work.
- Ability to work independently and to assume responsibility for technical decisions.

**LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES**
- Certificate of Qualification in Plumbing (TQ) for the Province of British Columbia (or equivalent).
- Registered as a Plumbing Official with BOABC.
- Plumbing Official 1 Qualification with BOABC.
- Cross Control Connection Certificate.
- Class 5 Driver's Licence for the Province of British Columbia.
