**Job Summary**:
Working as part of the CVIMS team, the Career Advisor/Coach will work with newcomers to assist them in continuing the careers they had prior to arrival in Canada. The main priorities of the Career Advisor/Coach are to work with each client to develop a realistic and tailored action plan to accomplish employment readiness, licensing, certification, and/or skills upgrading for job search success. This position will monitor client progress and maintain accurate, objective, and detailed case notes on each client. The Career Advisor/Coach will provide monitored case management and coaching support to ensure action plans are complete, and program targets and client outcomes are achieved. This position will assist in client recruitment, program marketing, and liaising with employers and community partners to create employment opportunities for clients.

Reporting to the Employment Team Lead, the Career Advisor/Coach will ensure that accessible, specialized employment services exist in North Vancouver Island region as well as contributing to reporting outcomes to the funders and completing project evaluation activities.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Employment Counselling / Case Management_
- Conduct eligibility and needs assessments, interviews clients to determine employment history, education background and career goals and ascertain their interests, skills, and job readiness
- Supports clients to develop realistic return-to-work action plans, monitors, and records progress
- Provide advice and coaching on effective job search strategies; assist clients to develop targeted resumes and cover letters
- Inform clients of relevant educational, training and credential evaluation opportunities
- Conduct research into occupational and educational information to assist clients with career and labour market research; provides up-to-date labour market information
- Develop and facilitate various employment workshops addressing the needs of clients
- Organize language assessments for potential clients in various communities in North Island region
- Process payments and reimbursements for clients and stakeholders
- Liaise with community service providers in Parksville, Courtney, Comox, Campbell River, Port Hardy, Port Alberni, and Ladysmith area
- Participates in all client recruitment and screening and program marketing activities. Provides program information to training service providers and referring agencies as requested
- Conduct regular and thorough client follow up; monitor and review the progress of client’s Action Plan
- Advocate on behalf of the clients and communicate with regulatory bodies; training institutions; employers; etc.
- Attend all meetings relevant to employment counselling, case management and specialized services for immigrants; participate in quarterly meetings with the Ministry
- Maintain current knowledge of services available in the community to support clients to allow for appropriate referrals
- Participate in regular staff conferencing and briefings to ensure excellence in client service
- Ensure strict adherence to client confidentiality and all other professional codes of conduct
- Work collaboratively as part of the Employment Team and the CVIMS Team
- Perform other related duties as requested by the Employment Team Lead
- Participate in yearly Performance Development Planning and program evaluation process
- Administration_
- Ensure all clients are documented accurately in OCMS and CPSI databases; maintain complete and confidential client records; both print and electronic
- Monitors statistics to ensure targets are being achieved
- Evaluates Career Paths employment services to ensure successful outcomes and service enhancement
- Maintains up to date knowledge on immigrant initiatives, programs and services locally, provincially, and nationally
- Ensures that clients receive quality service and access to appropriate resources
- Identifies partnership opportunities and works cooperatively with stakeholders to ensure sustained successful services
- Attends meetings in the community to coordinate project related activities and exchanges information with other community services providers, stakeholders etc.
- Promotes CVIMS programs/services to client communities and service providers
- Prepares monthly, quarterly and yearly reports and submits to the Employment Team Lead
- Ensures that all evaluations and reports are completed as required

**Qualifications and Requirements**:

- Travel to community locations within Central and North Island Region will be required. Occasional travel to locations in other parts of British Columbia and/or Canada for purposes of professional development, networking, or conferences may also be required
- Valid BC driver’s license, favourable driver’s abstract and access to a car is a requirement.
