**Intent**

This position provides shop assistance for the Manager, staff and Volunteers at the store including general operational duties, Opening, and closing the store, assisting with operations of the front end of the shop including merchandising, and problem solving in the manager’s absence, relationship building and maintaining a positive and caring work environment. It is a 6 month contract with the possibility of becoming a permanent Position.

**Hours**

Must be available for shifts Tuesday to Saturday, 20 hour per week, additional hours for staff vacation relief. Starting salary $17.40 hour

Manager, Superfluity Thrift Store

Peace Arch Hospital Auxiliary Society Board of Directors

**Responsibilities**

Ability to learn each department of the shop including Back Door Receiving, Collectable Pricing, Houseware Pricing, Sales, Clothing Sorting and Pricing, with emphasis on operations of the front of the shop, merchandising, quality control, and making sure the front of the shop is clean and tidy.
- Supports the Manager in preparation of daily cash and bank deposits.
- Holds a key for the property and opens and closes the shop as required.
- Supports ‘special events’ such as celebrations, customer appreciation, donor appreciation and volunteer recognition.
- Assists with researching valuable items online for price checking product retail value prior to pricing.
- Supports loss prevention strategy that is in place at the shop.
- Supports education and training materials for all volunteer positions add to train volunteers.
- Assists Manager with refund authorizations and cash registers issues.
- Answer the phone.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Supports the maintenance of a positive, caring and inviting environment for volunteers, customers and donors.
- Supports a culture of safety for volunteers and customers and takes immediate action to mitigate or resolve issues that put a volunteer, customer, donor or the organization at risk.
- Compliance with Peace Arch Hospital Auxiliary By laws, procedures and policies

**Skills**
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated Multitasking skills.
- Ability to understand the specific needs of volunteers by being conscientious of their abilities due to health and physical concerns (lifting, bending, standing in one position etc.) and assign tasks to them to accommodate these needs.
- Be able to adjust to the ever-changing dynamics of the operations of the thrift shop and be able to prioritize the workload and importance of tasks.
- Ability to work with a large number of diverse volunteers, donors and customers.
- Ability to build and sustain positive working relationships with volunteers, customers. and community

**Qualifications**
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Successful criminal records check
- Physical ability to perform the duties of Manager Support
- Self-Starter
- Ability to understand and be understood in English.
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision and as a team.
- Ability to lift 40 lbs.
- Must be able to sustain if needed a full 8-hour shift standing, walking, bending, and lifting.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and good problem-solving skills.
- Strong listening skills and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- A background in volunteering and/or a non-profit organization and retail
- Training will be provided for the right person.
