The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry provides outstanding education within a research-intensive, distributed learning environment, where tomorrow’s physicians, dentists and health researchers and other scholars learn to be socially responsible leaders in the advancement of human health. The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry is the largest Faculty on the Western University campus and employs over 2,000 part-time and full-time faculty members and over 1,500 staff.
The mission of the Department of Medicine at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry is to clarify the Department’s purpose and acts as the benchmark against which we judge our actions and decisions.
**Responsibilities**:
The Program Manager will provide support and day-to-day operational leadership regarding the Centre for Quality, Innovation, and Safety in the Department of Medicine, and will support and represent the senior leadership of CQUINS when required. The Program Manager will be responsible with the Executive Director for contributing to the development and implementation of strategic initiatives, budget, and a research and education mandate for the Centre. The role will also be accountable for driving forward a quality improvement and patient safety culture within the Department of Medicine, in conjunction with the CQUINS Executive Director and team. The Program Director and their team will develop both business and research processes within the Centre, and oversee the successful implementation of all quality improvement and patient safety projects and activities, ensuring the client’s research requirements are met.
**Qualifications**:
- Education:
- Master’s degree in Quality Improvement or equivalent degree where Quality Improvement was a significant component of the curriculum
- A Professional Clinical Healthcare Qualification is preferred
- A higher degree beyond a Master’s degree is desirable
- Experience:
- 5 years’ in a senior management position in a healthcare setting, incorporating budgetary responsibility and quality improvement
- Scholarly profile with a proven track record in research or quality improvement and dissemination of discoveries
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of best approaches for creating a shared vision with an ability to manage an effective team
- Ability to understand stakeholder, faculty and staff needs and expectations and provide excellent organizational skills to directly and indirectly satisfy expectations
- Professional manner, tact, diplomacy and discretion in dealing with associates and colleagues
- Proven ability and natural inclination to develop relationships by interacting with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
- Ability to evaluate issues, recognize potential problems and take action to proactively resolve issues
- Knowledge of, and networks in, the dynamic Quality Improvement and Patient Safety landscape
- Able to work flexibly and independently to manage own workload, within specific timeframes
- Seeks and accepts constructive feedback and uses this in the improvement of strategies
- Attention to detail with an ability to ensure information is accurate and comprehensive
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to convey information and opinions in a credible way to garner support
- Demonstrated the ability to write academically and publish research and findings
- Demonstrated ability to disseminate findings through acceptance of abstracts, invited speaker invitations to conferences and meetings, locally, nationally and internationally
- Project management skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously from conception to completion within tightly described timelines
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite
