Canadian Student Communities Inc (CSCI) prides itself on creating a team of staff who love what they do. The HOEM CAs will be part of the HOEM Team and will be integral in creating the welcoming and friendly environment at HOEM. The HOEM team is here to support our HOEMies, and their satisfaction is our top priority. While we have high expectations of each other as a team, it is equally as important that we have fun while at work. We’re looking for people who can maintain these characteristics in all of their responsibilities, no matter how big or small these tasks are.

The team of HOEM CAs will make all HOEMies feel welcome, keep them informed of what’s going on in the building, and assist the HOEM Student Life Manager in the planning, advertising, and delivery of events.

HOEM CAs will be the primary point of contact for HOEMies entering the first year of post-secondary education, and will be expected to get to know everyone in their community, bring HOEMies to events, and help HOEMies transition to living away from home (maybe for the first time) and with other HOEMies.

HOEM CAs are expected to be comfortable dealing with difficult and high-pressure situations including mental health crises, roommate conflicts, physical health concerns and beyond.

Hours of Work
The hours of work as an CA will vary but are generally flexible based on individual academic commitments. Specific duties of the HOEM CAs are indicated below.

Mandatory Dates

Training
There is mandatory training for each of the terms that you need to be present for.

**Summer**: April 30th - May 1st, 2023

**Academic Year**: August 13th - 27th, 2023 & January 13th, 2024
Specific times will be confirmed in advance.

Hiring
There is mandatory staff recruitment and hiring for each year that you need to be present for.

**Academic Year**: March 23rd, 2024
Specific times will be confirmed in advance.

Recruitment Events
When we’re showing off HOEM to prospective students we’ll need your help to showcase the building, our community and all the other fun things that happen here Specific recruitment dates will be communicated to you directly once scheduled.

Move-In Day & Orientation
In Fall 2023 during Move-In & Orientation we need some additional hands. Official move-in days at HOEM are August 26th & 27th, 2023. Orientation events typically run for a few weeks following move-in. There may be some additional dates when we have groups either coming or going, but we’ll make sure you’re aware of those in advance.

Duties

Community Building
The main purpose of the HOEM CA role is to connect with HOEMies and ensure they’re developing relationships with other HOEMies and have the support that they need to be successful in everything that they’re doing. We want you to know everyone in your community by name (and better if you know even more HOEMies).

Events
There’s always something going on at HOEM, and you’ll be expected take the lead on planning events for your community as well as the building as a whole. For HOEM Headliners (the big events that we run at a few different times of the year), we’ll need some additional help with advertising, set-up, tear-down, and will rely on the CA team to assist. During training we’ll assign team members to these events based on interest and availability.

On Call/After Hours
HOEM CAs will be expected to be on-call for student concerns at HOEM. This involves remaining in the building and responding to calls as needed. CAs cover between 3 - 4 on-call shifts per month where they are the main point of contact for students experiencing potentially high-stress situations. HOEM CAs must be comfortable dealing with incidents of this nature. CAs will have a network of other resources and supports to call on when necessary as well

HOEMie Concerns
Throughout the year there might be instances where HOEMies are going through a tough time, or just need someone to chat with. HOEM CAs are expected to be reasonably available for their community to help facilitate discussions between suitemates, or to offer support and resources when required.

Team Meetings
Biweekly team and one-on-one meetings will be arranged to work with everyone’s schedule. Your attendance at these meetings will be mandatory.
