**Position Title**
- Career Services Consultant**Position Summary**
- The Career Services Consultant assists clients with the necessary services and resources to identify and explore career goals, employment and volunteer opportunities and support them in obtaining desired employment. The Consultant provides a range of services designed to support prospective students, students, and alumni.
- The incumbent is responsible for planning and delivering career and employment events throughout the year including coordinating committees or teams, delegation of tasks and evaluation. This position will collaborate with the Career Education and Experience Development (CEED) Centre to identify employer opportunities and employment prospects for students. The Consultant takes the lead in liaising with RDP faculty and staff, the Students’ Association, and local employers to ensure Career Services is meeting the needs of all stakeholders.**Position Responsibilities**
- Assist a diverse population of prospective students, students and alumni to
identify their career goals, employment needs and opportunities using a variety of
service delivery methods
- Provide career development training and resources to clients for job search skills,
resume and cover letter writing, portfolio development, networking and
interviewing skills
- Promote the Red Deer Polytechnic online job board, career fair, and employer
spotlights as well as manage online job board and postings
- Coordinate and deliver special events including professional development
conference, student entrepreneurial events, career workshops and collaborative
opportunities with other RDP departments
- Promote the CEED Centre and Career Services by attending,
presenting at and/or participating at events such as Info Daze, New Student
Orientation, Open House, Program Spotlights, Career Nights, Trades orientations
etc
- Responsible for coordinating marketing and promoting Career Services events
- Allocate budget specific to each event in collaboration with the Associate Dean
- Other duties as assigned in job description**Required Qualifications**
- Two (2) years of post-secondary training, completion of a community college
certificate including trades apprenticeships or equivalent
- All employees in this position are to provide a satisfactory Check in accordance
with the Polytechnic’s Criminal Record Check Policy prior to the start of their
employment
- Two to three years relevant experience
- Membership in a national or provincial association dedicated to career
development (i.e. CACEE, CDAA, HRIA, etc.)
- Experience in a post-secondary setting and proven ability to work effectively with
a diverse population (ie. students, faculty, staff, employers, other career
development professionals and community agencies)
- Demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience
- Excels at networking and building relationships
- Career event planning experience
- Experience developing and facilitating career and employment workshops
- Strong interpersonal, presentation, facilitation and communication skills
- Excels at providing a student-centered approach
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects and prioritize competing responsibilities
- Takes initiative, uses creativity and well-developed problem-solving skills
- Works well in a team environment
- Demonstrates a high level of independence in planning and decision making
- Strong research and writing skills, with attention to detail
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Four (4) year undergraduate degree, or three (3) year undergraduate degree plus
one full additional year of University in a related program representing four years
of study or equivalent
- Certified Career Development Professional Designation (an asset)
