Economic Analyst/Practice Management Advisor

Reporting to the Director of Economic Research, the Economic Analyst/Practice Management Advisor assists in the execution, analysis and public delivery of OVMA’s economic services to members of association and other associations/organizations that have contracted economic services from OVMA. These reports are vital in the association’s support of members and the veterinary industry as they serve as the foundation of specialized practice management advice for member veterinarians.

This role includes building professional relationships with OVMA members to respond to member inquiries as well as working to proactively address their needs and to promote prosperous practices and veterinary careers.

OVMA has a hybrid work policy that allows team members flexibility in choosing their work location based on role and responsibilities. Currently, staff are primarily working from home, and in the Milton office a minimum of one day per week or more as job/department needs dictate or office policy evolves.

**POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- **Surveys/Fee Guides**
- The Economic Analyst/Practice Management Advisor initiates and develops economics and practice management surveys and oversees the process. This includes the development, distribution, data collection, data editing, data analysis and authoring of reports within established timelines. This includes (but is not limited to) the following reports:_
- Annual Economic Survey and Report
- Associate Compensation and Benefits Survey
- Alternative Career Paths Survey and Report
- Locum Survey and Report
- Client Satisfaction Survey and Reports
- Practice Consultation Reports
- Large and Small Animal Fee Guides
- Client Satisfaction Benchmark Reports

This position also requires overseeing monthly Practice Dashboards, identifying downward trends and consulting with those Clinic Member practices, and responses to member enquiries regarding reports and surveys.
- **Client Consults and Member Inquiries**
- Through analysis of all aspects of veterinary practices’ performance (financial statements, revenue/expenses benchmarking data, production information collected concerning clients, invoices, scheduling of appointments, staffing, etc.), the Advisor connects one-on-one with association members and practice owners to conduct detailed consultations (in-person or remotely) to discuss the practice’s opportunities or challenges.
- The Advisor, armed with economic data and guidance for veterinary practices, needs to not only share findings, but make recommendations and provide guidance for clinics to adopt methods and processes outlined in the findings.
- Embodies OVMA’s member service standard by responding to inquiries from members on issues related to practice or industry economics in a timely and courteous manner. Inquiries may be regarding surveys or other topics of concern, given changing economic or practice issues.
- The Advisor also authors benchmark reports comparing practice’s revenues, expenditures, staffing, appointments and other benchmarks against average and top practices, and meets with practice owners to conduct in-person consultations to discuss the practice’s benchmark report.
- **Veterinary Activity Index**
- The Veterinary Activity Index is a survey of monthly revenue from a sample of veterinary hospitals across Ontario and Canada_
- The Advisor oversees and analyzes survey results, identifies revenue trends and writes articles on trends for publication in veterinary periodicals.
- **Communications**
- To promote and share survey results/practice management advice, the Analyst writes articles on relevant topics (such as survey results, Help Wanteds, etc.) for OVMA and other partners’ publications, such as Focus magazine, the OVMA website, CVMA’s Canadian Veterinary Journal, and for distribution in OVMA’s e-newsletter.
- Prepares and presents research results to the OVMA Board of Directors, the Economics Committee and to industry conferences and events, as deemed appropriate.
- **Economic Committee Meetings**
- Provides support to OVMA’s Economics Committee, including ensuring that the Committee is regularly consulted on relevant topics, which includes organizing and facilitating meetings or other communications, as required.
- Writing reports on behalf of the Committee for consideration by the Board of Directors.

**REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE**:

- A Degree in Business Administration or Economics and/or relevant experience.
- A Degree and/or experience in Veterinary Medicine, agriculture, or health care is an asset, but not required.
- The ability to analyze data, produce reports along with editorialized articles that provide different perspectives of the data.
- 4-8 years’ experience providing economic analysis and/or business management consulting, specific to an industr
