The primary role of restaurant staff is to interact with guests and make sure they have a great dining experience. The lead server makes sure the dining room and staff are prepared to make this happen. Adding a level of accountability and acting as coordinator of the details needed for a smooth meal service on beautiful Lake Muskoka is a great way to spend your summer

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Lead servers work in every aspect of guest service. They greet guests that arrive, help seat them, and provide menus. They assist guests with making food choices and take their orders to the kitchen staff. They also deliver food to the guest’s table when it’s ready and make sure that guests have a quality dining experience through the whole process.
- When managers aren’t available, it is the responsibility of the lead server to resolve any customer issues. Lead servers are also sometimes responsible for balancing the cash register at the beginning and end of a shift. Lead servers will also be in charge of dining room scheduling and making sure there is enough wait staff for a given shift.
- The lead server is often part responsible for training new servers in the standard operating procedures of the establishment and the unique style of the restaurant. This includes establishing sanitation and safety expectations. The lead server uses their knowledge of the menu and bar list to help new staff with any questions about dishes and describing them to guests.
- Although they are not official supervisors, lead servers often help other servers with questions and provide assistance as needed. If a guest has an issue with the food or service, the lead server will take over and try to correct the situation.
- The job of a lead server starts before the first customer walks through the door. They assign sections to the serving staff and bus persons and make sure the dining area is clean, that tables are set with fresh linens and tableware, and that serving stations are stocked appropriately. They also review the menu and make sure the waitstaff is prepared for service.
- Greet guests, present menus, inform of any specials, make recommendations and answer questions regarding food and beverage items.
- Engage, converse and interact with guests in a positive, friendly, professional, courteous and respectful manner at all times.
- Take food and beverage orders and accurately relay to kitchen and bar staff via the POS system in a timely fashion, accurately and effectively communicating any modifications if required.
- Up-sell wine and beverage items to compliment food selections.
- Serve all food and beverage orders efficiently using proper service etiquette.
- Ensure guest satisfaction and report any problems or concerns to Assistant F&B Manager or F&B Manager.
- Ensure that the dining room area is properly set, cleared, cleaned and re-set throughout the entire shift, completion of side duties.
- Other duties as and when assigned.
**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (Education, Experience, Knowledge & Skills)**
- Minimum 2 years experience in casual fine dining
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
- Ontario Smart Serve certification
- Food handling certification an asset but not required.
- First Aid/CPR certification an asset but not required.
**PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/REQUIREMENTS**
- Indoors and outdoors in the spring/summer and fall weather conditions on covered patio, dining room and conference rooms.
- Moving furniture when preparing special arrangements.
- Walking, bending, carrying glassware, plates, glass racks, large platters, and chaffing dishes.
- Ability to lift up to 50 LBS.
- Long periods of standing on your feet.
- Must be willing to work multiple shifts including, morning, afternoon, evenings, weekends and holidays.
