Landscape Labourer

I Can Dig It Gardening is seeking a landscaping labourer for work in the Comox Valley and as far south as Parksville.

This position will begin as part-time (15-20hrs/wk) in the early spring, optionally becoming a full-time position (20-40hrs/wk) as our season picks up. You can make this position work around a school schedule or other part time job.

You would work as part of a 2-3 person landscaping crew. About the business: This small landscaping outfit offers both routine maintenance and completion of small residential projects with an emphasis on skilled, knowledgeable horticultural services. We narrow our offerings as much as possible on sustainable, practical landscaping services and builds, and we have a vast knowledge of plants and their needs. Some examples of our services include: Pruning, weeding, small tree care, trimming of hedging and shrubs, plant replacement, design and installation of softscape, lawn replacement, and some irrigation installation and maintenance. Basically, we're not another mowing business.

The successful applicant will have prior experience working outdoors with their hands in physically challenging roles. They will also have a strong aesthetic eye with a keen attention to detail. They will be fully comfortable working independently as well as alongside other staff members and speaking with clients regularly.

Driver’s license, clean driving record and reliable means of transport required. OFA Level 1 First Aid preferred, but this cert could be funded to the right applicant. Applicants must provide their own weather-appropriate clothing and CSA footwear.

Please note that we are highly cognizant of the risk of overuse issues in physical labour roles and make a strong effort to vary tasks for each worker throughout the day to mitigate this danger. As a result, you should be prepared to learn to perform every task needed for this job, (hedge trimming on ladders with power tools, hand weeding, moving heavy materials with wheelbarrows, pruning, planting, etc.) to allow the team to function correctly.

Applicants who experience seasonal allergies, have issues with bending over or kneeling for long periods of time, (back or knee problems) or lifting objects up to 50lbs are dissuaded from applying.

Preference will be given to plant nerds.
