Autism Nova Scotia delivers programming in Halifax and in nine communities across Nova Scotia through our Regional Autism Centres. Our three program divisions are: Social & Community Inclusion; Employment Support; and Family and Caregiver Support.

**POSITION TITLE: FAMILY SUPPORT AND RESPITE**

**POSITION DETAILS**:Part-time, contract employment 20 hours/week (Flexibility required)

**POSITION START DATE**:May 2024 - August 2024

**LOCATION**:Halifax, Nova Scotia

**TRAVEL (frequency)**:Local - Frequent Other - Between Halifax & Surrounding areas

**DIRECT REPORT**:Director of Family Support

**Program Summary**:
Under the supervision of the Director of Family Support, the Inclusion & Adult Support Coordinator will work directly with individuals and families living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), as well as providing education sessions to health professional and our community partners.

**Responsibilities include**:

- Assisting adults and families in understanding the rules and regulations attached to various forms of public and community support or programs
- Providing information on the programs and resources available to meet the needs of individuals living with ASD
- Liaising with and/or promoting the interests of adults with other community service providers, professional and school personnel as required
- Providing emotional supports and feedback to adult individuals and families that connect with ANS
- Working with families and adult individuals with complex needs to help connect to resources and advocacy supports required
- Collaborate with the Inclusion and Family Support Coordinator when needed to support families and individuals 18 and under
- Adherence to a high ethical standard of support for any person living with ASD; respecting individuals right to be treated with dignity and respect; high discretion & respect for confidentiality a must
- Researching and preparing information, presentations and resources that will be shared with families, professionals, and prospective community partners
- Planning, developing and effective communication with adult individuals and families living with ASD, as well as Autism Nova Scotia team members and direct supervisors
- Maintenance of regular and effective communication with adult individuals and families living with ASD, as well as Autism Nova Scotia team members and direct supervisors
- Fostering positive community partnerships and connection around the organizations program and services
- Maintenance of related records and statistics, written reports including monthly and annual reviews
- Performance of other related duties as required
- Providing support within the community pertaining to requests regarding sensory friendly environments (i.e., Dalhousie and Neptune Theatre, etc.)

**Qualifications**:

- Post
- Secondary Degree/ Diploma in a related field or equivalent job experience
- A clear, current criminal record check is required
- A clear, current child abuse registry search is required
- A valid driver’s license and access to an insured vehicle is required
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (is considered an asset or willingness to acquire)
- First Aid & CPR certification (is considered an asset)
- Fluency in French or Arabic (is considered an asset)

**Minimum Knowledge and Experience**:

- Knowledge of overall goals and intent of Autism Nova Scotia
- and its Chapters (including organizational structure, policies, guidelines, programs and project activities)
- A strong knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder and the diversity of needs throughout the lifespan of all genders is essential
- Strong interpersonal skills are required, strong knowledge and connections to the disability or autism communities an asset
- Knowledge of survey tools, data reporting and software programs such as Sharevision, Office 365, and Zoom

**Minimum Skills and Ability**:

- Organizational, Administrative and Time Management Skills - Must have the ability to plan, organize and coordinate activities; to address constant and varied demands of the position
- Leadership and Group Facilitation Skills - Must have the ability to develop information sessions, create and deliver presentations to a variety of community stakeholders
